What do you get when you mix a bit of Hollywood with Thai food and an Elvis impersonator? You get the enormously popular Palms Thai restaurant, which has been drawing in locals and just about everyone else in Los Angeles since its opening.
Although this is a unique selling point of Palms, the food is the main reason people keep coming back. That night I feasted on the delightful Spicy Meat with Green Bean in Thai Curry Sauce, and I was pleased at just how tasty it all was. It was so good, in fact, that I almost didn't notice Elvis on the stage. It felt even better to wash it all down with a refreshing Singha beer, and I then sat back and enjoyed the show.
One of Palms' specialties is its curries. You can choose from a variety of different Thai curries, such as the Panang, Red Curry, Green Curry, Curry Vegetable, or Roasted Duck Red Curry. And of course, you can have one of the many typical Thai dishes such as Pad Thai.
But if you want to try something different, I definitely recommend the Wild Things menu, which has exotic dishes such as Frog with Mint Leaves and Deep Fried Quail. There's also the famous Thai BBQ and an assortment of seafood and chicken on this menu. Many locals say they only order from the Wild Things menu, and just one glance reveals that there is something for everyone.
Where else could you go to enjoy authentic Thai food in a central location and hear someone sing Elvis songs the way they were meant to be? Only in Los Angeles could you mix show business with tasty Thai food and come up with a winning formula. This is one formula, however, that you'll never get tired of, mainly because dining at Palms satisfies not only your appetite, but makes it a fun evening full of memories that you'll hold onto forever.
