Americans have had a long-standing love affair with the hamburger. Books have been written, DVD’s made, and many restaurants opened with the burger as the star. Today, with people on the go so often (especially those with kids) fast food has become the alternative to home cooking, and burgers have significantly been the meal. The dichotomy is that interest in eating all organic foods is at an all time high, now that there is so much information available about steroid and antibiotic infused beef, and the use of cloned vegetables. So, how does one eat fast food and yet still eat organic?
Well, in West Hollywood, you can have your cake and eat it too. Okay, it’s not cake, it’s burgers… and the good news is they’re all organic and the location is completely eco-friendly.

Let me divulge first that my husband is the co-owner. That said, I have been a fan of his cooking, having had the opportunity to try out his dishes for the various celebrities and high powered execs that he has cooked for during his career as a private chef.
For the past two years he has worked on finding the right recipe for a veggie burger

that he wanted to have on the menu of an all organic fast food hamburger restaurant that he had in mind. When he had dinner with a friend of ours, Martha Chang, a family film producer, she saw his vision and brought in some of her own ideas as they teamed up to open

The first all organic fast food burger restaurant in Los Angeles, offering grass fed all organic beef, free range turkey, hot dogs, veggie burgers, fries, salads, and even grilled veggies, which is a refreshing addition to a fast food menu.
O! burger opened on the 31st of May and from the consistent crowd, it seems that there is definitely an interest in having organic fast food that is affordable, healthy and yet still gives you the thrill of having that great fast food burger. The Classic
O!burger is the most popular in the restaurant’s formative days, the meat used is grass fed beef, which translates into being rich in Omega3’s, CLA (a fatty acid that may be a potent cancer fighter), vitamin A and E, and anti-oxidants. They also have the proprietary veggie burger that is one of the tastiest vegan foods found in L.A., made with various veggies, spinach, corn and oats. And the crinkle cut fries are crunchy, with a great flavor, and not at all greasy. The menu is simple, and straight forward, the quality of the food is the difference.

Watching the excitement on the opening day, I wondered if the next day would be a let down, as many of the customers were friends and family at the opening. I was relieved to watch as the next day was almost just as busy, and very few of those faces were familiar, and each day thereafter has been a steady stream of new and return customers. “At
O!burger, we’re giving diners the chance to have a delicious yet healthy and nutritious meal in a short time at a reasonable price – because more and more that’s what their busy lives require,” said Andy. And Martha emphasizes “Anything you put in your mouth here is organic. Our bodies recognize and process organic foods correctly. I love it when customers come back and say that they love the food but they're hungry three hours later. It's because our bodies know what to do with it. Instead of struggling to digest unfamiliar processed food for hours, it can go on and do other work such as replacing abnormal cells with healthy ones. "

And it’s not just about the food. They use packaging that is made from renewable resources that are recyclable, compostable, and/or biodegradable. Their cleaning products are green and non-toxic. The paint used on the interior is AFM lead-free Safecoat paint, the same kind used in schools and hospitals. It has “zero VOCs”. Even the wooden panels that you’ll find as part of the décor are from reclaimed wood from a farm in Vermont.
The space is a friendly, vibey, with a modern feel, with nice lounge/pop music playing to give you a groove while you’re waiting, or eating. They have outdoor seating as well.
Located at 8593 Santa Monica, in West Hollywood, they are open from 11:30 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. weeknights everyday. 310-854-0234 or go to www.oburger.net.
