Kotosh Peruvian Sushi Review- The Best Sushi For New-shis

Whether or not you like sushi, Kotosh - Peruvian Food and Sushi Restaurant located at 2408 Lomita Blvd. #C in Lomita is a spot you’ll have to stop and try. After coming in to have a business lunch, the crew at LA Splash Magazine have a new favorite place to have food drinks and chat with friends.

We decided to let our hosts decide our dinner tonight

We decided to let our hosts decide our dinner tonight

Kotosh had a nice variety of drinks and surprisingly enough, the dishes look exactly like they do in the pictures- that never happens! Like McDonalds and their burgers that never look as good as they did on the menu once it’s sitting in front of you. Everything on the menu is very light, easy and tasty, while fulfilling and satisfying. The fish is so fresh it doesn’t have that “fishy” smell.

I love Japanese restaurants like Kotosh because the employees are always so thoughtful. We had prompt service with a smile just how we like it.   Because of the wide selection of dishes to choose from we just had to try as much as we could.

We started off with a few drinks: Plum wine, cabernet red wine, calpico soda, condensed milk, carbonated and non carbonated soft drinks, Inca kola - the golden kola, and sake. With our drinks, they brought four chilled glasses and a cup of ice which was very considerate.

Then it was on to the main courses. First up was Tiradito De Atun which is a Peruvian style tuna sashimi, served with special lemon and soy sauce – the fish is so good. There’s no fat on it, it has a good color and texture and it’s cut perfectly- sometimes if it’s too thick it’s not good. Not to mention the sauce is not too heavy.

Taradito De Lenguado

Our second order was p1 – Taradito De Lenguado - Peruvian style halibut spashimi, served with a special spicy sauce.   Amanda with LA Splash was “…reminded of the Mexican dish ceviche with this platter- you can tell it was prepared with lemon.”

Third up was The Cruchy roll- tempura cated rice, shrimp tempura, avocado, spicy mayonnaise, topped with eel sauce. This is an all time favorite. Erika with LA Splash felt it was “…unlike a lot of cruchy rolls I’ve had. As a newbie to sushi, I was very please with the presentation- it tasted immaculate and it really is something I could eat everyday, if I was on a stranded island.”

“The Choros a la corolla has a very sensuous taste” – Amanda with LA Splash. This dish consists of fresh mussels covered with marinated chopped onion on   key lime. It’s   so pretty and pleasing to the eyes.

Another dish to-die-for would be the Tallarin Saltado- Spaghetti with sautéed onions and tomatoes with chicken. It’s also available with beef or fish. Amanda – “My mouth is just oh my god, it’s so divine! if my tongue had a smile it would be smiling from ear to ear!”   Erika – “It’s so flavorful, with the special green hot sauce- this is good…it’s different but I love it. The sauce is totally good and it tasted almost like a celery based sauce. I love it when people are thoughtful enough to chill their sauces.

The friend rice was so amazing and was comparable was so comparable to eating filet mignon- seriously. There’s no fried rice like it. Most places make friend rice from leftovers for their American customers but here it’s actually really good. I took one bite and my mouth was full of so much flavor! This along with the garlic seared yellow tail and tuna with fried potatoes on top was an amazing combination!

The Chicharron mixto al ajo was another winner – fried sea bass, octopus, shrimp, squid and fish in special garlic sauce with rice. The seafood is so good without that bad “fishy” taste. This dish is perfectly and deliciously crispy. Erika- “It’s crispy without the sogginess and is complimented perfectly with the sauce.”

Eric Nakata is the manger and owner Kotosh and he definitely knows how to keep his customers coming back for more with the tongue tantalizing recipes originating in Peru and the four-star customer service. We even met a customer who lives in Seattle and makes sure to come for the food once a year. This Peruvian/Japanese food trend is something I’ve never heard before and nobody else has either. Erika – “All the dishes were like an explosion in your mouth! I never get full at a sushi restaurant especially with such little food but it was so satisfying I didn’t even snack the rest of the night.” This is one of the few resturants whos food look exactly like the beautiful pictures you see in magazines.

Kotosh plans to expand in the very near future so look for one near you! If you hate seafood because of the fishiness you have to try this place because you may just fall in love with it- I did. Don’t be afraid of this place you new-shis to sushi- you don’t know what your missing. You’ll taste how truly fresh and flavorful everything is without any side-effects like indigestion that sometimes comes after eating greasier Asian food. You’ll have a biologically friendly car ride home if you catch my drift. It’s even a kid friendly establishment, but be sure to try to get in before 6 o’clock because it gets really busy at after 7 pm.

Their hours are:

Monday - Thursday
11am-2:30pm
4:30-9pm

Friday
11am-2:30pm
4:30-9pm

Saturday
11am-10pm
