If you are looking for an original restaurant with a menu that will put a smile on your face as you read the off-the-wall names, that match the up-beat and lively atmosphere, then Grub is the restaurant that you need to search out. This restaurant hidden away in Hollywood with its amazing flavors on the Grub menu, will leave that smile on your face long after you leave.
The one thing you will find is that you might not always know what you are eating, but it is going to taste great. This is true from the beginning of the menu as the appetizers, or “Grubettes” are different than your normal appetizer menu. The “Want Not, Carb Not” can be served by itself or as a salad and you can’t go wrong either way. Grub takes these tasty cheddar-parmesan-pistachio chips and covers them with a sriracha-horseradish-garlic aioli sauce that has some serious kick to it and then tops them with roasted peppers, onions and alfalfa sprouts. If you are looking for a lot of flavor and a little heat, this is the dish for you.
If you don’t mind getting a little messy, the spicy bbq pulled pork sandwich is one of the tastiest, tender and robust sandwiches you will find. The pork is cooked to perfection, but what puts it over the top is the barbeque sauce. Grub managed to give you all of the zest and spice of a great barbeque sauce, while not overpowering your taste buds; it just compliments the pork perfectly. Just ask for some extra napkins, the mess is worth it.
One of the other treats on the Grub menu is the “After School Special.” I’m sure most of you can recall having a grilled cheese with tomato soup when you were a child and this might bring back those memories, but Grub has taken this to a whole new level. Let’s just say if you love cheese, you will love this sandwich. The cheddar and Swiss cheese is just oozing out of the sides of the perfectly toasted sourdough bread. While that might get your taste buds warmed up, the tomato soup is not your everyday soup. Grub makes their soup homemade and you can taste it in every bite. This soup has a richness, fullness and creamy flavor that I have never seen in any other tomato soup. What a pleasant surprise, turning such a simple dish into such an incredible dining experience.
Grub also serves up a wide-variety of other sandwiches and burgers that your really have to read the description on the menu to fully appreciate, but they clearly have poured a lot of imagination and love into these recipes and you can taste it in every bite.
The breakfast menu at Grub is, well let’s just say they offer up enough variety and choices that if you can’t find it here, you’re probably not very hungry. Eggs, omelets and pancakes are great, but if you want to have a breakfast that will wake your taste buds up, get “Our Friggin’ Amazing French Toast.” The taste matches the name. They take either croissants or raisin bread, soak it in their cinnamon vanilla mix and serve it with toasted pecans and maple syrup and the crème de le crème, the raspberry butter that pushes the flavor over the edge. This flavorful dish not only works for breakfast, but it also makes a fabulous dessert.
From the amazing service, to the friendly, family setting in this former house, everything is original and different than any other restaurant you are going to find in Hollywood. Don’t forget to bring your dog, as the outside setting is dog friendly, a great added bonus.
In addition to this restaurant, the “Grub Girls” Betty Frasor and Denise Carlo also have been in the catering business for 12 years and have seen their originality flourish in the media word, including an appearance by Betty on the second season of the Bravo Network hit “Top Chef.”
