The Bubba Gump Shrimp Company gives you Forrest Gump and of course shrimp, but once you try it, you will find out there is so much more to this restaurant that it will keep you coming back time and time again.
They found the perfect spot for this restaurant, right on Universal Studios Hollywood's CityWalk. Not only a great location outside, but inside as well. You have a combination of a great family atmosphere, to go along with that great party feel with a fully loaded bar, tables outside and a small stage right inside for a band. And if you are a fan of the movie 'Forrest Gump' you will certainly love all the memorabilia from the movie throughout the restaurant.
The opening of the restaurant is on Saturday, August 26th. Not only a great day to be one of the first to partake of this great setting, but also on this day Bubba Gump will donate half of the proceeds to Universal's 'Discover A Star' Foundation.
This will be the 22nd restaurant and ten years from the first opening. This should let you know that they don't open these restaurants on every corner, when they open a Bubba Gump; they do it right in every aspect, especially the menu.
The appetizers, well appetizers might be the wrong word, because after tasting them you may want to just make a meal out of them. Bubba's Far Out Dip would have to be at the top of the list of what you should try, this spinach, artichoke, cheese and red pepper combo on a tortilla will leave your taste buds wanting more, and of course Forrest will let you add shrimp to this one.
When it comes to the main course, shrimp is there in every way, shape and form and you could not go wrong with any of the shrimp dishes, but don't limit yourself to the shrimp. I had a pleasant surprise when I tried the Dixie Style Baby Back Ribs. Many times when restaurants try to expand their menus, items that are beyond their specialties, just don't measure up. Not the case here, I would put these ribs up against any barbeque place around. The sauce is perfect and the meat is as tender as you could find anywhere, but what I loved was the fact I didn't have to make a complete mess of myself, as with a slight tug by the fork, the meat came right off the bone.
If you happen to have room for desert, and trust me you might not, you cannot pass up the key lime pie. It is so smooth and tasty you would imagine you were eating it on the beach of a tropical island; it is no stretch to say this is the best key lime pie I have ever had.
Moving onto the bar, and what a fun bar it is, not just for the atmosphere, but also for the concoctions they have brewing. They have great hand shaken margaritas and Mama's Blue Hawaiian, well I'll just say it is so good you may just pull yourself up to the bar on a hot Saturday afternoon and keep sipping these until sunset and you will never know where the time went. As good as the Blue Hawaiian is, if I had only one drink to consume it would have to be Mama's Favorite. A combination of Kahlua, frozen vanilla yogurt, chocolate and DiSaronno Amaretto leaves you thinking you are drinking a chocolate shake, of course with a little kick and as an added bonus you can keep the glass when you finish.
The great food and great atmosphere is only enhanced by what has to be the friendliest staff I have ever seen. Trust me, you will be well taken care of at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company.
