The Christmas season is upon us and what better way to celebrate then at the L.A. Children's Theater Festival. Playing now at the L.A. Little Theater are two classic children's stories about becoming real with love, and a little magic. The Velveteen Rabbit and Pinocchio are running now through January 5, 2014.
The Los Angeles Children’s Theater adaptation of Margery Williams’ classic story The Velveteen Rabbit is a heart-warming production ideal for children of all ages. Bright costumes, and fun characters bring to life the tale of a little toy rabbit who wants to be a real live rabbit. She learns what it means to be real from a wise old Skin Horse, a snooty new China Dog, and a funny Clown.
In the end, love, or a child’s love for his toys, conquers all, and each toy undergoes a dramatic transformation. It is this touching metamorphosis that R. G. Cantalupo’s adaptation emphasizes and which resonates with audiences long after they have left the theater. And it is this message, particularly at Christmas, which is so dearly needed, and makes “The Velveteen Rabbit” a perfect Christmas show for the entire family.
R.G. Cantalupo’s adaptation of Pinocchio also resonates a perfect message for the holiday's. This tale of love follows the life of a little puppet on his quest to make Gepetto's, his maker, wish come true.
This little puppet, Pinocchio, has to make his way through life, and not get trapped by temptations. Luckily he has Cricket to help him make right choices and get out of tough spots. Beautiful music, magical moments, and the quest for being honest, true and faithful, bring this delightful play to life.
