SPQR's "Modern Drama" Induces Summertime Laughs

The cast of SPQR Stage Company's world premiere of Bill Sterritt's "Modern Drama" at Studio/Stage Los Angeles

Imagine being ringside as a long-married dysfuntional theater couple in New England indulges in endless summer evenings of super stiff cocktails, various sedatives, menthol 100's, late night dinner parties, an unexpected house guest and mind-numbing writer's block (but is the block real, imagined or just a self-fulfilling prophecy?).

Ghosts of infidelities of evenings-past are revisited and re-examined, and a young hot-shot outsider tries to get the old playwright to pen his next long-awaited masterpiece.  The young man makes a deal with the ever tipsy, long-suffering wife of the troubled yet brilliant playwright:  her various drunken sexual exploits of much younger men are now old news.

Conga lines are formed, spirits flow freely and heavily, and old love is both re-ignited and rediscovered in the most unusual of ways.

SPQR's "Modern Drama" runs through July 1st at Studio/Stage Los Angeles

SPQR Stage Company's world premiere of Modern Drama is both written and directed by Bill Sterritt, and is a self-described "comedy of manners about infidelity and retribution on the tip of Cape Cod...Noel Coward's Private Lives meets Luigi Piendello's In Search of an Author."

The small, yet technically capable cast and simple, yet effective staging make this One-Act comedy a must-see for some hearty summertime laughs.  The intimate and inventive house seating (everyone gets their own Adirondack deck chair complete with pillows and arm rests) makes the audience feel like they are part of the action, and the Sea Breezes are delicious!
