Santa Monica Playhouse's "Cinderella" Is Fun For All Ages

Original musical adaptation of classic fairy tale is heavy on audience participation and interactivity

This year has marked the close of the 52nd consecutive season of the Santa Monica Playhouse, a community theater institution that has proven itself to be a generational affair of creative hearts.  Cast members double as Set and Lighting Designers, play multiple roles and even serve as ushers to each and every audience member as they enter the Main Stage Theater.  "Cinderella" is written and directed by Chris DeCarlo and Evelyn Rudie, with Costume Design by Ashley Hayes and Creature FX by The Attic Room.

The entire cast is spectacular and the audience is asked often to participate throughout the roughly hour-long production.  James Cooper (who also did Set Lighting and Design for the show), "graduated" to the role of the ale-loving King Osgood, having played Prince Asgood (Garett Stevens in this production) in a previous decade's run.  Cynde Moore (in the double role of the Stepmother Arabella and the Fairy Godmother) also "graduated" from the Cinderella lead (Serena Dolinsky in this run).  Stepsisters Prunella (Betsey Albert) and Grisella (Juliet Ladines) have wonderful comic timing and chemistry.  Audience tip:  if your own little Cinderella comes dressed in her costume and you have a seat in the first few rows, she may even get a chance to try on the slipper in the final act!

"Cinderella" has its extended run at the Santa Monica Playhouse Main Stage theater, 1211 4th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401 from January 12th through March 24th, 2013 with show times at 12:30pm on Saturdays and 3pm on Sundays. Tickets are $12.50 ($10 for children under 12), and can be reserved by calling (310) 394-9779 extension 1.  For more information go to:  the official Santa Monica Playhouse website.
