Southern California is often synonymous with summer vacation; vacationers come from all around to visit the beach, Disneyland, and many of the other hot California spots. What these visitors don't realize is that spring and fall are the best time of year to make a trip to Long Beach. Although summer is warm, there tends to be a morning marine layer that can often last longer than just the morning time.

Spring and fall has the weather you expect from southern California: sunny, warm, with more sun. Schools are in session, so families vacationing in Long Beach have either not arrived for the summer or they have just left, making a quieter vacation for you.

Best Places to Stay

Deciding where to stay will depend on the type of things you want to do while visiting Long Beach. The waterfront is a great choice for water enthusiasts. From here, you can go to the beach, sail the ocean, or visit the many ocean shops and restaurants. There are also several area attractions on the water like the Queen Mary. Not only has this historic ship been renovated into a museum, but part of the ship has been converted into a hotel. For a unique experience and a fantastic waterfront location, consider staying on the Queen Mary.

If your vacation plans are more geared away from the water, the Signal Hill neighborhood in Long Beach has fantastic views and easy access to many area attractions. For city stays, check out Airbnb, as it is a fantastic source for finding an affordable place to stay in Long Beach.

Must See Attractions

Long Beach is one of the largest sea ports on the West Coast, so the first attraction that comes to mind when thinking about Long Beach is, of course, the cruise terminal; however, there is much more to see in Long Beach than first meets the eyes.  A good place to start is at the waterfront where visitors are attracted to the many shops and restaurants. From here, you can visit the Aquarium of the Pacific. which has a fantastic shark exhibit or take the ferry over to Catalina.

How would you like to take a gondola ride and feel as if you were in Venice? You can do just this on Naples Island, a hidden gem that many visitors on Long Beach are not even aware exists. Gondola rides run from mid-day into the evening, but sunset is the best time to take a ride. The city of Long Beach awaits you with much to be seen and explored.
