Thrones! The Musical Review - A Laugh a Minute

Direct from London and Chicago, Royal Mile Entertainment presents THRONES! THE MUSICAL, a parody on the very popular HBO series, “Games of Thrones.” Written by Chris Grace, Zach Reino, Al Samuels, Nick Semar, and Dan Wessels, the production casts lovingly pokes the multiple ribs of the cast members as it laughs at the show and tickles the audience’s funny bone. THRONES! THE MUSICAL has played to sold-out houses in Chicago, London, and Edinburgh to the delight of audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.

A show destined to be uber-popular with the hordes of “Game of Thrones” fans, THRONES! THE MUSICAL features choreography by Kimberly McVicar, musical direction by Douglas Drew, and direction by John Flynn – all three and the entire competent production team ready to take on the task with skill and humor.

When a group of close friends gathers to watch the season finale of their favorite TV show, they discover that one of their members has never watched “Game of Thrones.” The group (Jessica Joy, Chris Grace, Meghan Parks, Albert Samuels, Amber Petty/understudy, and Nick Waaland/understudy) sets out of rectify that sad omission on the part of a close friend by acting out all six seasons. What ensues is a rollicking recap of “Game of Thrones” set to music and dance.

Who can resist the many fanciful members of the “Game of Thrones” cast – even while they’re beheaded or subject to other heinous, violent, and/or sensual crimes of the heavy-breathing variety? Of course, it may prove difficult to remember all their names – but their actions make them live. Battles abound; incest rears its head; and fire-breathing dragons are the least of their worries. The Wall stands firm as White Walkers stroll the North, while the infamous Walk of Shame titillates and definitely holds everyone’s attention.

Six actors play 51 roles with memorable and hilarious performances. Not a hysterical moment is missed by avid fans, which may just be the one shortcoming of the production. THRONES! THE MUSICAL is a satire of “Game of Thrones.” If you - like one of the group of friends in the play - haven’t seen the TV show, then most of the humor will fly right over your head. At the same time, it’s probably true that very few people have not seen at least a few episodes of “Game of Thrones,” given its six-year life span thus far. Many of the fans in the packed house on the night of the review will probably become repeat participants. “Game of Thrones” has become an iconic show, and its fans will probably keep multiplying. Witness Harry Potter!
