'Thicker than Water' by Roy Battocchio

It has been fifteen years since ‘Thicker than Water’ had its world premiere at Theatre West in Los Angeles, California.  The show quickly became one of the biggest hits in the 53 year history of Theatre West.  It has now come home and is once again bringing an abundance of much needed laughter to Southern California theatre goers.

Connie Mellors & David Mingrino

The story begins when Tommy Corelli comes home to New York to visit his family.  Tommy Corelli is the creative member of the Corelli family and so moved to Hollywood about a year earlier to pursue a career in screen writing for television.  Bringing him home is concern about the health of his father Dominick Corelli but as the story unfolds it becomes centered on various plans to rid the family of its universally disliked Gertrude Corelli.

Vince Palmieiri & Mary Garripoli

Tommy Corelli played masterfully by Joseph Bongiovanni becomes increasingly distressed as one by one he learns of at least three inter family plots to ‘whack’ Aunt Gertude who to me seemed to be more or less a female Donald Trump.  Eventually even the anchor of the Corelli family, Rose Corelli, Tommy’s mom reveals her plot to rid the family of Gertrude.  This all sounds serious but it is absolutely hilarious.  And there is an amazing surprise ending that fills the theatre with laughter and smiles.

Johnny Ferretti & Maria Kress

The cast was superb with the two standouts being Jack Kutcher as the brilliantly bizarre Doctor Flankan and Mary Garripoli as Rose Corelli.  Jack Kutcher and Constance Mellors [Gertrude Corelli] were both in the original cast during the world premiere in the year 2000.

Johnny Ferretti, Heather Alyse Becker & Jospeh Bongiovanni

‘Thicker than Water’ is a truly fun show, filled with a steady stream of robust laughter and some very good Italian food.  It is playing now through March 13th 2016 at Theatre West, 3333 Caheunga Boulevard West, Los Angeles, California [directly below Universal City and across from Panasonic].  Show times are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m.   Theatre West even provides free parking in the Panasonic parking lot directly across the street.  Reservations may be made by calling 323-851-7977323-851-7977.  Go see it, laugh and enjoy.  We can all use a good laugh right about now.
