If you enjoy films and TV, you'll like Pop-Con LA. (Pop Culture Convention) The first annual PopCon LA is a spin off of ITV Fest and Stay Tuned TV, both which work heavily on web series and shorts, will be held downtown at the L A Convention Center. The four day event (July 5th-8th) has a fabulous red carpet at 7 pm on July 5th followed by a concert and the screening of The Unborn. (Though events - movies, panels, comedians, art, fashion and music -- start as early at noon with the film Winter and a panel on New Media.)
Panels will include producers, directors, casting and psychics - yes, psychics. It's a bit of something for everyone. There will also be fashion shows, celebrity autograph signings, and special feature film screenings including a special screening of Blade Runner followed by a Q& A with Sean Jean, Joanna Cassidy and James Hong as well as a screening of Superman II with a Q &A with Margot Kidder, Jack O'Halloran, Valerie Perrine and possibly even Sarah Douglas.
Pop culture stars as Billy Dee Williams (Star Wars), Doug Jones (Hellboy), Martin Kove (The Karate Kid), Tim Russ (Star Trek:Voyager), Margot Kidder (Superman 1-4), Claudia Wells (Back to the Future), Jack O'Halloran (King Kong , Dragnet), Cindy Morgan (Tron), Bai Ling (Crow), Bruce Boxlietner, and James Hong (Kung Fu Panda, Big Trouble in Little China) are expected to attend.
Formerly held at the Laemmle on Sunset, the festival outgrew its home. "We wanted to have a myriad of entertainment for a myriad of people." Several thousand are expected to attend this year.
ITV Fest, which is in its seventh year, is the premiere festival for independently produced TV pilots, web content and digital features in both live-action and animation. It was in 2010 that Visions Media, LLC , a Florida based company aquired the rights to ITV Fest and organized both events. Vision Media is owned by Frank Zanca and Ken Nichols. Frank is a writer/producer in his own right and has authored three novels and numerous screenplays, while Ken has led pioneering efforts in social media and online video and has been an instructor at SAG Conservatory, WebTV Workshop, and Gantt Workshops in Hollywood.
