(Hollywood, CA) June 25th- Face Paint, Music, and a very loud Clown- No, the circus wasn't in town, it was David LaChapelle and the cast of his hit new movie RIZE celebrating the release of the movies original soundtrack at the Key Club.

Beauty all around

The party was indeed as odd and interesting as it sounds, very much to the same style of the movie and the soundtrack it was promoting. With multiple screens and a huge projector flashing with images of the frenzied Krump dancing that the movie featured, the stage was set for a night that promised to be as eccentric and wild as RIZE itself. Jonathan McHugh, Music Supervisor for the RIZE Soundtrack claims: 'Keeping hip-hop pure, keeping it real is the message here.' From the moment we stepped in, hip hop flavor was all around us in its purest element. The DJ was mixing the original music from the album and everyone was enjoying the beats from Flii Stylz, Tenashus, Dizzy Rascal and the other artists featured on the album in their own personal ways; Whether it was leaning back on the railing with their eyes letting the music wash over them, or out on the dance floor emulating the dance moves that the movie popularized.

Art meets the street

If you had asked me about Hip-Hop a week ago I would have shrugged and mumbled a few things about 50 cent and Nelly and left it at that. However, attending this party and speaking to some of the people who were responsible for this album put things in a different light. 'There are not many opportunities in our business to be a part of a movement from the beginning.' Jonnie Forster, Forster Bros Entertainment's CEO remarked. This truly is a new movement in Hip-Hop. Unlike the countless albums glorifying bitches and hoes and money, the RIZE soundtrack showcases music that is based on oppressed people trying to create beauty in an environment where there is none.

Featured dancers from the movie in their element
|
While the vibe from the party while overall very good, the crowd went insane when Tommy the Clown and the other dancers from the movie took the stage and started dancing. It was as if the audience had been given a shot of adrenaline, as if the incredible energy from the dancers had found its way into the crowd. The energy lasted long after the dancers left the stage and people dancing until 2am.

These dancers feel it, do you?

The Key Club was the perfect host for an event of this caliber. They understood the vibe, they understood the occasion and they got it right. Whether you were a seasoned vet when it came to Krumping or a newbie to underground Hip-Hop this was definitely not an event where anyone was darting glances from their watch to the door. Congratulations to David LaChapelle for shedding light on a worthy movement, and congratulations to the Key Club for understanding it so well.
