Milan International Film Festival Awards Ceremony At The Italian Cultural Institute: Miff's Best

Like a well scripted movie, 'MIFF's Best' held last night at the IIC, in Westwood, had scenes filled with emotion: applause, laughter, and even tears. Packed to the rafters, the international audience filled the Sala Rosselini Theater to the very last seat (including the emergency supply of fold-up chairs that had to be brought in to accommodate those who were left standing).

The celebration of creativity and passion explodes onto independent cinema and its filmmakers at the Milan International Film Festival Awards Ceremony.  MIFF gives back some of the excellence projected onscreen by brilliant directors and actors alike.  The Leonardo's Horse for Best Performance Female was presented to the up-and-coming actress Juliette Marquis for her outstanding execution of a role in the film 'This Girl's Life' by the film's director Ashley Baron Cohen and co-star Tomas Arana.

Charlize Theron could not be present to receive her Best Actress award due to a commercial shoot in Paris. The Deputy Consul General Fernando Curatolo accepted the award her behalf, reading the warm acceptance letter in which she thanked the festival and the audience for their support of 'Head in the Clouds."

Martin Landau

As Martin Landau received his Leonardo Horse Award for Best Performance Male, he was met with a standing ovation. His presence stole the entire night and his heartfelt speech was one that all the guests commented upon throughout the rest of the evening. The award ceremony was followed by a candlelit party in the courtyard of the Italian Cultural Institute, generously sponsored by D'Aquino Wine Imports, Fabiolus Cafe, and Berri's Cafe.
