Los Angeles Opera -- La Damnation de Faust

For more than 400 years Goethe's epic tale of Faust's battle with Satan over control of his mortal soul has fascinated story-tellers from playwrights to composers. In its latest incarnation, the Los Angeles Opera presents a vibrant production headed by internationally-renown designer, painter and director Achim Freyer and conductor Kent Nagano. Placido Domingo will serve as guest conductor on Sept. 21 and 24. Presiding over a cast of more than 100 players, Paul Groves stars in the role of "Faust," with Samuel Ramey as "Mephistopheles" and Denyce Graves as "Marguerite." Highlights of the production include the Berlioz's choir of demons, chanting their infernal chorus as Faust plunges into hell.
