Hollywood executives and celebrities gathered with 250 veterans and community volunteers at Universal Studios in Hollywood on November 9, 2012 to celebrate Veterans Day 2012. National veterans, nonprofit The Mission Continues and Got Your 6 campaign worked together with volunteers and producer JJ Abrams (Mission Impossible, Star Trek), Ron Meyer (President and COO of Universal Studios), actor Tom Arnold (Roseanne, True Lies) and other members of the entertainment industry to fill backpacks with food for the local children of Los Angeles.
Before the service event, JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and NBC Universal hosted The Mission Continues and Got Your 6 at a welcome breakfast for veterans and volunteers at the Globe Theatre in Universal Studios.
Other Hollywood celebrities and executives in attendance and who walked down the Red Carpet were CariDee English (America’s Top Model winner), Greg Grunberg (Heroes), Jason George (Grey’s Anatomy), Dolvett Quince (The Biggest Loser trainer), Brandon Routh (Partners), Monet Bagneris (Miss Los Angeles 2012), etc.
The service event started with the playing of the American National Anthem and salute to the flag. This was the most dramatic part of the whole morning. Then there were remarks from JJ Abrams and The Mission Continues founder and CEO, Eric Greitens. Chris Marvin (Got Your 6 Managing Director) was also on stage with Universal President, Ron Meyer.
After the speeches, all the volunteers, veterans, executives and celebrities spent the morning filling more than 5000 backpacks with food for children in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Volunteers then delivered the food to Title 1 schools in the Los Angeles area.
The whole event was very well organized. The marketing and branding of the sponsors, The Mission Continues, Got Your 6 and NBC Universal was excellent with colorful posters everywhere you looked.
The layout of all the varieties of food to be packed in backpacks and distributed to the children in Los Angeles was impressive.
Got Your 6 is a nonprofit campaign designed to link veterans and military families with top entertainment studios, networks, guilds and agencies.
