Santa Monica Baykeeper is finally making it official after years of supporting water quality in Southern California beyond its Santa Monica roots. A ceremony will celebrate the non-profit organization’s tireless service on behalf of our community’s water at The Bay & Beyond: Making Waves 2012 on Thursday, June 28th at 6:00 p.m. at Hotel Casa del Mar in Santa Monica. Dedicated to protecting and restoring the bays, rivers and creeks that run through Los Angeles, the organization will unveil its new logo, look and website, as well as a new name that better reflects the breadth of its work: Los Angeles Waterkeeper (aka LA Waterkeeper). The star-studded fundraiser will feature celebrity emcee Alan Tudyk, star of ABC’s Suburgatory, Santa Monica Baykeeper Executive Director Liz Crosson and other surprise guests. A silent auction with rare and luxurious items will top off the evening. Visit smbaykeeper.org.
Ms. Crosson shared, “since its founding, Santa Monica Baykeeper has worked to resolve water quality issues throughout all of Los Angeles County. The name ‘LA Waterkeeper’ more accurately represents our mission, and conveys that our efforts extend far beyond Santa Monica alone.”
Suburgatory star Alan Tudyk is proud to champion Santa Monica Baykeeper during its transition. “Santa Monica Baykeeper is the tip of the spear in the fight for your right to clean water,” he says. “They have been jabbing polluters with that spear since 1993.”
In addition to a first look at LA Waterkeeper’s new image, guests at The Bay & Beyond: Making Waves 2012 will have a chance to bid on spectacular silent auction prizes. Entrants may win a weekend stay for ten guests at a private house in Hollister Ranch, a four-night stay for two in an ocean view room at the Four Seasons Maui, or a “Life-Plan, Complete Financial Planning” service package with Morgan Stanley.
