Harper¹s Non-Profit Foundation Partners with USMC Toys for Tots for Annual Charity Event
HOLLYWOOD Actors Hill Harper (CSI: NY) and Nate Parker (Arbitrage) have partnered to host the 5th Annual Manifest Your Destiny Toy Drive. Originally created by Harper¹s non-profit foundation of the same name, the annual charity event will be held in conjunction with the USMC Toys For Tots Program on the evening of Tuesday, December 11 at Playhouse Nightclub in Hollywood.
Last year, the Manifest Your Destiny Toy Drive yielded the most donations of any event of its kind in Southern California. Over one thousand toys were collected; a record the foundation is determined to break this holiday season. This year¹s event will feature a celebrity host committee including Gabrielle Union, Isaiah Washington and Nicole Scherzinger, along with food, beverages, entertainment, toys and guest gift bags made possible by CBS, Ogo Sport, Miss Jessie¹s, popchips, Chambord Black Raspberry Flavored Vodka, 1iota, Cupcake Cuties Cupcakery, Diabolo Beverages, DJ B. Hen and GoodWoodNYC.
Despite the glitz and glam of a Hollywood backdrop, Harper and Parker¹s intentions are to utilize the toy drive as a vehicle to raise awareness for less fortunate youth in Los Angeles. Statistics show that the number of homeless individuals in the city of Los Angeles is higher than any other urban area in the country. While roughly 140,000 Angelenos are said to be without shelter at some point over the course of the year, a shocking 50,000 of those are children. In response to these facts, Harper and Parker have hand picked this year¹s toy drive beneficiaries in order to best provide for the underprivileged youth population in Los Angeles.
While a portion of the event¹s proceeds will go towards the USMC Toys For Tots Program, the remaining items will be donated to the children of resident families at the The Salvation Army, Westwood Transitional Village along with the students enrolled in the Los Angeles Chapter of Arnold Schwarzenegger¹s After-School All Stars (ASAS) organization, a leading after-school program. Both facilities strive to provide a safe haven for at risk youth while offering them the resources they need to succeed academically and socially. Humbled by the efforts of the Westwood Transitional Village and ASAS, Manifest Your Destiny is honored to provide them with toys and other necessities this holiday season. Items will be hand-delivered to each facility by Harper, Parker and the celebrity host committee members the following Saturday.
For the public interested in attending the 5th Annual Manifest Your Destiny Toy Drive a new, unwrapped toy and/or monetary donation is required for admittance. For more information and to RSVP, visit http://www.mydtoydrive2012.eventbrite.com or email [email protected].
