Drag Queen Calperina Addams and Bingo Boy Jeffery Bowman

Los Angeles’ longest running and most successful weekly charity event "Legendary Bingo," starring Bingo Boy Jeffery Bowman and Drag Queen Calperina Addams, hosted a fundraiser on October 26th for Climb2Cure (C2C), the new fundraising platform from The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) that involves several regional chapters climbing Africa’s highest summit, Mt. Kilimanjaro, in 2017.

Over 100 guests played 10 lively rounds of bingo at Hamburger Mary's in West Hollywood for various prizes from sponsors, including Arclight, California Pizza Kitchen, Bulletproof Coffee, Santa Barbara Winery, Riviera Towel Company, Junk Gypsies, Cake & Cork, Fred Astaire Dance Studios and Diana Ralys Skin Health. There was also a live auction with items from Viceroy Santa Monica, Tao of Wellness, SaunaBar and FIG Restaurant.

Be the Match also held a donor drive for guests to sign-up onsite to be a bone marrow donor and save a life. Due to recent guideline changes, Be The Match is pleased to welcome more members of the LGBT community onto the national registry of donors. The only requirements to join are that individuals are between the ages of 18-44, in general good health, and committed to donating to anyone in need.

Climb2Cure founder and 2x leukemia survivor Lila Javan

Climb2Cure founder Lila Javan is a two-time Leukemia survivor, and it was her singular vision to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro that kept her going while undergoing chemotherapy and her second bone marrow transplant. It also inspired the people around her. Soon enough, she had her doctors, nurses, friends, family and colleagues all wanting to make the climb with her. Once in remission, she approached LLS with her vision, and this top cancer research charitable organization agreed that this was an incredible avenue to raise awareness and funds for curing cancer—thus, Climb2Cure was born.

Javan says, “I am embarking on an amazing adventure to climb Kilimanjaro to raise $1,000,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and also as a donor drive for the national bone marrow/stem cell registry. If anyone is going to find a cure for cancer, it's LLS."

She is also producing a documentary that chronicles her journey from treatment to the adventure in Tanzania this coming January.

The Mt. Kilimanjaro climb is fully supported by LLS' Team in Training program. Teammates are provided with access to national coaching services to prepare for the trip while raising money in support of the mission to cure cancer.
