On February 16, 2013, beauty queens from all around the world came together at Sheraton Universal Studios Hotel in support of “Date for a Cure” Gala benefiting Susan G. Komen Los Angeles County Affiliate. The evening’s gala swarmed with beautiful people attending with purpose to help spread awareness for Breast Cancer Research and Treatment—“The Los Angeles County Affiliate of Susan G. To date, The Affiliate has raised over $9.2 million for community-based grants to local LA County health organizations. Through these grants, Komen LA County provides crucial funding for breast cancer diagnostic services, educational programs, patient navigation, and psychosocial support.”
The black tie event began with celebrity guests posing on the red carpet. Snap shots captured the guests in their lovely tuxedos and gowns. Guests included actor and gala host Kevin Nealon, singer, songwriter Paul McDonald, X-Factor’s Josh Krajcik, Dancing with the Stars' Peta Murgatroyd, Reigning Miss Universe Olivia Culpu, Reigning Miss USA Nana Meriwether, Reigning Miss California USA Mabelynn Capeluj, Reigning Miss California Teen USA Cassidy Wolf, Reigning Miss District of Colombia Allyn Rose, Miss USA 2011 Alyssa Campanella, and Miss USA 2009 Kristen Dalton. During the delicious dinner course, guests enjoyed gala host Kevin Nealon, best known for his nine-year stint as a cast member of NBC’s Saturday Night Live, and for his role in the Showtime series, Weeds. Nealon introduced the entertaining musical performance by American singer-songwriter Paul McDonald.
As the night went on, groovy tunes played by the “The California Band,” Southland’s premier variety and dance band. Working with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Sade, and George Benson, they’ve entertained at top corporate events throughout the United States and the world. Oprah has been quoted saying that they are her “favorite dance band.” We agree!
A fashion show by A. Che’ took over the stage and gorgeous models dominated the runway in contemporary fashion forward swimwear line designed for “the natural woman.” Shades of spring colors—turquoises, magentas, royal blues, floral prints—one and two piece swimwear sets lit up the room!
Musical performance by X Factor singer, song writer, multi-instrumentalist Josh Krajcik enchanted the night with his gravely-rich voice. Krajcik, who is set to release a debut solo EP and full length album, gave an intensely passionate performance highlighting the night!
Of course, reigning Miss Universe Olivia Culpo and reigning Miss USA Nana Meriwether thanked everybody for attending the exquisite evening and the host committee for putting the event together--Amanda Che’, Beresford Wall, Dr. David Abrams, Frieda Rapport Caplan, Jeryy Wayne, Mark Pilon, and Rod Luck.
