Blues Traveler Announced as Headlining Act for 5th Annual White Light White Night July 16

Grammy Award-winning Blues Traveler to Perform at Walk With Sally’s 5th Annual White Light White Night Event, the South Bay’s Summer Can’t-Miss Event Benefiting Local Children Affected By Family Members with Cancer

Walk With Sally announces that Grammy-winning jam band Blues Traveler will be headlining its 5th annual White Light White Night fundraiser, concert, auction and cocktail party on Saturday, July 16 at 7:00 p.m.. The party has been recognized as the South Bay’s premier “summer chic” event, complete with a celebrity packed red carpet, a variety of food vendors, exclusive performances and silent and live auctions. The nonprofit celebrates its fifth year with a new venue at King Harbor Redondo Beach, future site of the new Shade Hotel and not to miss performance from overlooking the marina.

White Light White Night serves to benefit Walk With Sally, a South Bay nonprofit organization that provides free-of-charge mentoring support programs and services for children across Los Angeles who are living with or have lost a parent or sibling to cancer. “Each year, White Light White Night serves as an opportunity to share the stories of the hundreds of children in Los Angeles who get lost in the mix when a loved one is diagnosed with cancer,” says Walk With Sally’s founder, Nick Arquette. “This event gives voice to those children, and allows us to fund existing and new friendships with mentors. Without the support of our community, we would not be able to make such a massive impact in those children’s lives.”

Following the success of 2010’s event headlined by rocker Gavin Rossdale, the 2011 event anticipates an even bigger audience with the special performance by Blues Traveler. Having outgrown the rooftop at South Bay BMW in attendance, White Light White Night will be held at an exciting NEW location featuring stunning King Harbor views at 655 N. Harbor Drive in Redondo Beach. The night will also offer:

  • Cuisine from various popular South Bay restaurants and bars including Shade Hotel’s Zinc Lounge, ROCK’N FISH and Sashi
  • Signature touches of Choura Events including reserved pod seating, tented food & beverage stations and a large stage
  • A stirring video presentation depicting the stories of Walk With Sally’s children
  • A VIP silent and live auction, offering one-of-a-kind products and experiences including vacation packages, fine art and tickets to sporting events
  •  “Stand Up For A Kid” opportunities to support mentor relationships for an entire year

Each year, White Light White Night draws an eclectic mix of celebrities, socialites, philanthropists and music enthusiasts donning white apparel from head to toe in a sign of solidarity and hope for those brave people fighting cancer in the Walk With Sally family.  The “White Light” arises from a significant visualization meditation that Arquette and his mother practiced while she was battling her own cancer.

“The color white is often thought to symbolize healing and inspire hope.  When my mother Sally was fighting her disease, we would sit together and literally envision those parts of her body containing the cancer, veiled in white.  A signature moment of every White Light White Night is when we take a few minutes and encourage event guests to visualize ‘white light’ surrounding their loved ones.  It is the most powerful moment of the evening,” says Arquette.

Generating more than $80,000 in 2010, White Light White Night is Walk With Sally’s primary means for facilitating mentor friendships for local children. These children are mostly from single parent households whose worlds have been turned upside down by the cancer of a parent or sibling. It is estimated that it costs $1,000 to sponsor one child for a year through the Walk With Sally program.  The goal for this year is to fund over 25 new friendships in addition to continuing to support 25 existing friendships.  Currently, the program’s greatest need is for male mentors, with many boys waiting to be matched with a mentor.

General tickets can be purchased starting June 1 for $150 online at
