What A Pair! Performs At The Broad Stage Benefiting Breast Cancer Research At The John Wayne Cancer Institute At Saint John’s Health Center

This annual fund-raising concert will be staged for one-night only on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 7p.m. at The Broad Stage, 1310 11th Street, Santa Monica, California.

WHAT A PAIR! has raised over $2-million dollars for breast cancer research and is partnered with the John Wayne Cancer Institute at Saint John’s Health Center as the beneficiary to increase awareness and fund research, supporting the fight to eradicate breast cancer.

“We are so thankful for What A Pair! and their continued support of the Institute’s breast cancer research programs. These funds allow our doctors and scientists to continue leading-edge research, improving the quality of life for all women afflicted with this terrible disease,” said Dr. Armando Giuliano, Chief of Science and Medicine and Director of the Breast Center.

Cast members have included Jessica Biel, Jamie Lee Curtis, Loretta Devine, Deborah Gibson, Jasmine Guy, Debra Harry, Kate Flannery, Marg Helgenberger, Sharon Lawrence, Jane Lynch, Megan Mullally, Jean Smart, Tierney Sutton, Lea Thompson, and Rita Wilson.

Returning cast member, Jane Lynch says, "While raising money for the crucial work of the John Wayne Cancer Institute, we gals get to pretend we're Broadway divas for a night and sing our hearts out!" Jamie Lee Curtis continues "Women, like many of my friends, who battle breast cancer,they face their fear every dayby getting upand doing the treatment and facing the disease head on...I figure that if theycan face their fear head on so can I, my fear being singing in public."

WHAT A PAIR! is produced by Jo Levi DiSante, Jody Price, Ruth Stalford and Lauren Sands. Emmy Award winner and Academy Award Nominee, Matthew Diamond will direct this year’s performance; and Thomas Griep is the Musical Director.

Since 1981, the John Wayne name has been committed by the Wayne family to groundbreaking cancer research and education in memory of their father who died of cancer. The John Wayne Cancer Institute at Saint John’s Health Center has received worldwide acclaim for advances in melanoma (skin cancer), breast and colon cancer as well as immune therapy of cancer. Other areas of research include prostate and liver cancer. Their unique ability to rapidly turn scientific breakthroughs into innovative approaches to treatment and early detection provides immediate hope to cancer patients from around the globe.
