It takes a worthy cause to get glammed up celebrities to spend a Hollywood night in a bowling alley. Even though Lucky Strikes Lanes has become just as much a hotspot as your velvet roped clubs, you don't readily think of bowling as a driver to bring out the who's who in the city of glitz and glam. But, Shawne Merriman, outside linebacker for the San Diego Chargers knew just what he was doing when he decided to host his Lights On Foundations 3rd annual charity drive at the Lanes.
David Arquette, Rohan Marley, Eddie George, Macy Gray, Avril Lavigne, and many pro-athletes attended Lights on Bowl which was highlighted by both a live and silent auction all aimed to raise funds for youth charities, "Feeding America" and "Stand Up for Kids." Both charities are recognized nationally for their works in the area of youth outreach.
After working up a sweat bowling, guests were rallied to start bidding on exciting prizes like a day with Shawne Merriman, court-side seats at a Lakers game, and a diamond encrusted watch. I can't think of a better way to spend a buck than making a purchase you know will help others. The idea of paying it forward comes to mind and during this holiday season, we all need to take into account how and where our dollars are spent.
The silent auction provided the opportunity for guests to bid on autograph sports memorabilia, calendars, and posters.
Bowling and bidding weren't the only elements of the night to help raise funds for this worthy cause; Cupcakes and cocktails also were a another big hit. San Diego bakery Cupcakes Squared served up delectable treats as guest sipped on cocktails from the bar.
Many sponsors helped make the night a success and Shawne was gracious in his thanks for being able to support a cause that is so near and dear to his heart.
