It’s true that “It takes a village to raise a child,” but at times, it takes a village to raise an adult.
Once again Safe Passage, Dr. Bruce Vafa of Smile Angels of Beverly Hills and Dr. Fardad Forouzanpour of Beverly Hills Cosmetic Surgical Group prove this is true as they come together to host Safe Passage’s 2nd Annual Valentines Event February 12th, 2011.
The event was to raise money so Safe Passage (a 501c3 non-profit organization) can continue to help women and children of domestic violence escape abuse and restore their lives with training and development tools to rebuild their lives in a safe environment with their children.
CEO/Founder Trish Steele expressed gratitude. “These are some of the people who help Safe Passage's clients become confident. I’m so thankful for them.”
Event Planner Marlen Descargar donated her services and arranged for superb and eclectic entertainment by DJLO’s groovy tunes, Center Stage Opera’s poignant performance, and Dilana’s robust and powerful vocals. The colorful singer is also a songwriter, award-winning actress, and advocate of Safe Passage. She, too, had been a victim of domestic violence and the empowering lyrics of her song “Ice” have been most inspiring to the clients of Safe Passage.
Exciting door prizes were raffled, ranging from shoes autographed by Jessica Simpson, an original John Paul Thornton oil painting valued at $1,600, to various skin care products, such as an Obagi skin care basket.
An inspirational story of how Maria Suarez overcame her experience as a human trafficking victim from the age of 16 – 21 touched everyone. She was wrongfully convicted for the murder of her abuser in 1981 and subsequently imprisoned for 22 years. Suarez testified that the services from Safe Passage and Dr. Forouzanpour have significantly helped her in regaining self-confidence.
Vafa and Forouzanpour have been helping Safe Passage for many years. The two philanthropist were honored at last year’s Valentine’s event by Mayor Villaraigosa for their philanthropic work in the community
Dr. Vafa said, “I want to help these women with a beautiful smile so they can go out in the world with confidence.”
Vafa has 24 years of experience in a world class smile design and high-tech dentistry.
One of the country’s top cosmetic surgeons, surgical inventor, and surgical instructor, Dr. Forouzanpour said, “It’s important to me to help these women who have suffered so much abuse.”
The world-renowned physician is also the founder of the Beverly Hills Cosmetic Surgical Group.
They both offered fantastic promotions honoring the event and donated most of the money to Safe Passage.
In the US alone, a woman is beaten every 7.4 seconds, leading to 3-4 million women abused annually. The current economic climate has only fueled this as domestic violence increases with unemployment, poverty and displacement. Many of these women are left feeling helpless and are forced to leave their homes, only left for the streets or a shelter.
Safe Passage offers assistance in empowering women to end their abuse and help women create a positive image and life for her and her children. They receive healing for their body, soul, and spirit teaching them the proper tools so they can independently start a new life with their children.
