This event took place at The Santa Monica Pier on May 21, 2013. The evening started out with a lavishing red carpet step and repeat. There were many celebrities that attended the event to support Sugar Ray Leonard and his foundation. The carpet was actually quite relaxed. Though many celebrities arrived to grace the carpet they didn’t all show up at the same time which allowed the media plenty of opportunity to get great coverage of the carpet.
This year's attendees included: Sugar Ray Leonard (Boxing Legend, Olympic Gold Medal Winner, Six-Time World Champion), Tommy Davidson (Actor/Comedian, Black Dynamite (Adult Swim's #1 series), best known for top-rated Showtime comedy specials and ground-breaking "In Living Color" MC of the Night), Usher (Recording Artist; The Voice), Billy Bush (Access Hollywood), Adam Rodriguez (Actor; Magic Mike), Sergio "The Latin Snake" Mora (World Boxing Champion), Johnny Gill (Recording Artist),Barry Bonds (retired MLB player),Andre Berto (Professional boxer; Two-time Welterweight Champion),Baxter Humby (Canadian Champion Kick boxer), Benito Martinez (FX's Sons of Anarchy),Clyde Carson (Recording Artist), DeVon Franklin (SVP of Columbia Tristar Pictures & Author of the bestselling book, PRODUCED BY FAITH), Dondre Whitfield (ABC's Make It or Break It), Edwin Hodge (Actor; Red Dawn), Franchesca Robi (Songstress; Singing the National Anthem for the night),McKinley Freeman (VH1's Hit the Floor), Robert Knepper (CW's Cult), Rory Cochrane (Argo), Sheriff Lee Baca (Sheriff of Los Angeles County), Tamala Jones (ABC's Castle)
Master of Ceremony for the event was Tommy Davidson. He entertained the crowd with his shenanigans making jokes and funny faces as he does best while everyone laughed and had a great time.
In between bouts the items donated were auctioned off to raise money for The Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation.
Songstress Franchesca Robi (daughter of The Platters’ Paul Robi) sung the National Anthem to kick off the fight part of the evening. There were 4 scheduled fights for the evening.
Top 40s band Zota Pop, and DJ BABY CHINO really set the mood for a great event keeping the sounds going throughout the night playing a mixture of people friendly music.
There was so much food and beverages as people maintained an equal balance between the chili cheeseburgers and the margaritas. Those that were one of the fortunate guests to attend the event left there very content.
Some of the food and drink sponsors included Asombroso Tequila, Monster Energy Drink, Hansen, Sneaky Pete’s Beverage, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, and Weaver’s Coffee & Tea. Beachy Cream, Sheila G’s The Original Brownie Brittle Company, Garden of Eating Catering, Wicked Kitchen, Jalisco’s Mobile Taco Grill, Monsoon Café,Rollin’ Rib BBQ, Sabra Dipping Co., SUSHI POPPER, and Sweet Insanity Bake Shop.
VIP’s received an autographed boxing glove from the one and only Sugar Ray Leonard on their way exiting the event.
This really was a class A event. I am already looking forward to attending next year.
