The Daily Grill in Santa Monica introduced their New Simply 600 Menu featuring American style cuisine containing 600 calories or less.
Vice President of Culinary Phil Kastel dished out a delectable display of meals from their extensive lunch menu catering to a variety of appetites: salads, fish burgers, tacos, chicken, seafood—and pasta.
Kastel said he visited Daily Grill restaurants across the country sharing tips on maintaining the flavor of these favorite foods without the heavy calories.
Established in 1988 in Brentwood, California, The Daily Grill is known for serving classic American fare in the tradition of upscale New York City grills and is located in nineteen locations including Washington, D.C, Texas, Washington State and Oregon.
“It was just a matter of sharing information with the other chefs,” explained Kastel. “Many discovered that just a little less olive oil could reduce the caloric count considerably in most dishes.”
And, fortunately for the guests attending the event, a first-hand account of the new low calorie dishes were readily available to sample—with surprisingly good results.
Known for their emphasis on flavor and freshness, each light dish featured hearty full-sized portions.
“The Simply 600 Menu items are designed for people who want to enjoy great food without the guilt,” said Kastel. “Our Simply 600 menu offers lower calorie options for lunch and dinner, but you’d never guess that you’re limiting your caloric intake.”
Known for serving only the freshest food at each of its 21 restaurants, the Daily Grill’s Simply 600 menu includes lower calorie options but isn’t just a menu full of salads. There’s something for every palate.
Here’s a look at what’s available on the Simply 600 Menu:
Blackened Ahi Tuna Salad seared rare and lightly seasoned with Cajun spices.
Thai Noodle Chicken Salad with Napa cabbage, mandarin oranges, snow peas.
A Daily Grill favorite—the Simply 600 Burger is hand formed and served with a side of asparagus.
Turkey Club Sandwich featuring lean turkey, bacon and avocado with a side of fresh fruit.
Tacos with black beans and Spanish rice and topped with southwest dressing.
Blackened Tilapia is topped with a lemon butter caper sauce and served with a grilled vegetable skewer
Idaho grilled Trout with Daily Grill’s signature peanut cole slaw.
Grilled Herb Chicken Breast served with spinach and fresh vegetables.
And for meat eaters, tender Petite Filet Mignon.
The Simply 600 menu ranges from 318 to 590 calories. And, while substitutions are allowed, it may increase the calories.
Dishes are available for lunch and dinner, with the exception of the Los Angeles International Airport Daily Grill.
