La Brea Bakery Cafe Reopening & Ribbon Cutting Ceremony last Thursday, January 30, 2014


Los Angelinos "rose" to the occasion of the La Brea Bakery Cafe re opening and ribbon cutting ceremony last Thursday, January 30, 2014 at noon.
The public was invited (and they all came in happy droves, (or they drove in droves) to indulge in the complementary gastronomic bites handed out by a smiling, friendly staff who invited all to share in not only the Cafe's Grand Opening, but also La Brea Bakery's 25th Anniversary since it first opened it's doors in 1989.

Founder (and ever so charming) renowned pastry chef Nancy Silverton lit up the room with her beaming smile as she welcomed all who attended this free event to say hi or thank her as I did for such a generous bounty of freshly baked goods, pastas, vegetables, freshly cut cheeses flown in from France no less, and bottomless lattes and lemonades for all!  The result of her passionate commitment to quality is clearly apparent given the delicious array of pastries, muffins, loaves and other perfectly baked exotic sweet and savory goodies which filled the room, and only surpassed by her extremely generous spirit.
Nancy Silverton upholds her "Old World Tradition" of bread baking since her first beginnings with a sourdough starter she raised herself that gives her bread such a unique flavor, texture and quality like non other.  Oh, so this accounts for the typical lines around the block to buy her breads?  Nancy is also responsible for pioneering the "freeze and ship" par baked breads shipped all over the world so you too can enjoy the exquisite wonder that is La Brea Bakery right in your own home!
John Yamen, CEO and Keith Silverton, Culinary Consultant (same name/no relation) were also on hand to meet and greet and explain their unique process.   "KS" (aka Keith Silverton) is responsible for designing their menus and bake cases among a myriad of other things.  Keith graciously provided me with a guided tour of the "back of the house" including a view of their shiny new equipment and a gander at the pièce de résistance, a wood fired oven that reaches 700 degrees, with access on both sides, and presto or "pesto" as the case may be, your pizza is ready in two minutes!

Delightful morsels on trays floated throughout the room, carried and accompanied by smiles from an equally welcoming staff during La Brea Bakery Cafe's spectacular Grand Opening event from noon til 3pm.
Can one describe a sunset to someone who's never seen it?  Or Silverton's breads?  I'd be hard pressed to try, but if you find your way to the new La Brea Bakery Cafe it'll all become clearer... or at least tastier.
