Friday August 5th 2001 – The rooftop of the JW Marriot Hotel high above the glittering lights at LA Live (near The Staples Center) was jumping for the Thrillist Dine-Around LA event. Thrillist invited 150 social influencers, media types, VIPs and sweepstake winners nationwide for a weekend-long showcase of the best Thrillist Los Angeles has to offer. Thirst quenching beverages for the entire weekend were provided by BACARDI® Artic Grape™ and BACARDI® Rock Coconut, smartwater®, Corona Light and Wines of Germany were there was something for everyone.
Kicking things off on Friday night, Thrillist started the party with an epic jaw-trembling feast at the JW Marriot Rooftop Pool Bar. The event called Dine-Around L.A. Live, featured mouthwatering samples from some of the best restaurants in Downtown LA including Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, Katsuya L.A. Live, LA Market Restaurant by Kerry Simon, Rosa Mexicano, Trader Vic's Los Angeles, WP24 Restaurant & Lounge by Wolfgang Puck and Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill.
Partiers worked off some of the food by dancing to the beats of eye-catching fashionista’s DJ POSSO. This female disco-duo (tag-team female DJ’s) provided the musical accompaniment for the event and kept everyone rocking to the beat.
If you wanted a picture as a souvenir for the night, LA Photo Party provided a complimentary photo shoot against a backdrop with you’re your choice of outrageous hats, scarves, feather boas and assorted props. I opted to be filmed with a couple of the beautiful Bacardi Girls (sans the props and crazy costumes).
For fashion conscious patrons, Thrillist provided "an honest appraisal of your appearance" from The Bumby’s (Gill & Jill), an incognito pair of personal appraisers. The Bumby’s provided both male and female perspectives on everything from style, fashion sense and color coordination, to individual posture. At the end of your “personal evaluation”, you were handed a typed (yes, the Bumby’s actually used old-school typewriters) to formulate their opinions on white postcards. If you weren’t completely satisfied with you appraisal, there was an assortment of Nivea for Men skin care products to make you feel better about yourself.
Following the Food Fest, everyone was ready for the second part of the night, where the guests headed to the Club Nokia VIP Lounge for a post feast fest dance party. The movers and shakers were shaking and moving, thanks to DJ Ivy who kept the party going with her masterful music mix.
The lights were low and so were the inhibitions after a night of consuming complimentary libations courtesy of the generous liquor sponsors. Some of the crowd made an early exit to rest up for the weekends festivities and some of the crowd partied hardy into the night. Either way, a great time was had by all.
Bright and early on Saturday, (for those who didn’t sleep in), guests enjoyed breakfast in The Mixing Room and Yoga for Athletes from YAS Fitness Center presented by smartwater®. Everyone then headed to the Hollywood Hills for the Thrillist Mansion Pool Party, joined by Top Chef Alums Marcel Vigneron and CJ Jacobsen.
Marcel molecularly mixed delicious BACARDI® cocktails, while CJ hooked it up with lunch. Pool partiers enjoyed performances by DJ Party Ben and synchronized swimmers, Aqualillies Flash Mob. Guests took a break from the sun to indulge in the NIVEA for Men Spa (with haircuts from Proper Barbershop and massages from Ritz Carlton Spa) and hit up the smartwater® Relaxation and Hydration Station.
Back at the hotel, the Jackthreads Style Suite was underway, packed with some of their best LA customers and Hotel Thrillisters. Everyone enjoyed a live performance by local MC Joshua Silverstein and snacks from Freshii, plus hot shaves at the NIVEA for Men Pop-up Barbershop. Guests also picked up style tips from Jackthreads' founder, and checked out exclusive looks from some of the online shopping club's top brands. MG Black, WeSc and The Hundreds.
Later that night, partygoers gathered at LA Production Studios to join in the revelry that is Hotel Thrillist Los Angeles, which eventually turned into a crazy dance party to the beat of Deejay Reprise. It was an incredible three days of partying LA style thanks to Thrillist and all the sponsors and supporters of the event.
