Soaking Up Sintra Side Streets Review – Inviting You to Plant

Less than two days in Sintra?  Not enough…

It’s the many castles under the jurisdiction of Parques de Sintra that puts a visit here on nearly every Portugal Tour itinerary.  We knocked off tours of four of these in just one day:

Monseratte

Monserrate, our favorite;

Moorish Castle

Moorish Castle;

National Palace of Sintra

National Palace of Sintra;

Pena Palace

and Pena Palace and Park, reported to be the most popular by the numbers.

So charmed by the quick car ride through the town surrounding these castles, we felt a need to come back.

A quick few hours second visit was arranged at a later stop in our itinerary.

Sintra is one of the many places on our Portugal tour that were clearly touristy, but somehow avoid feeling like a tourist trap.

It’s these lovely side streets that make it feel so much like a place to plant for a longer stay.

Reading the literature about other things to do in Sintra—falconry lesson, camping in Pena Park, zipline rides through the forests, a music/dance festival in many charming historic venues, horseback riding lessons, and more—there seem to be many activities to keep you happy in Sintra for a week or weeks, if you somehow could swing that sort of time.

Tip:  No matter how long or short your stay, make time for a no-agenda wander….

The Visit Portugal website  and the Parques de Sintra website are recommended starting points to help you plan how much time to devote to these cities in your Portugal tour.
