QT Sydney Review – Experience the jiving, sexy & quirky QT Sydney Boutique Hotel

QT Sydney - Formally the old Gowings building, QT Sydney incorporates much of the historic signatures of the building into their hotel but it is paired with bright signs, interesting artwork and a unique energy. QT Sydney is located on 49 Market Street, Sydney.

My mother and I excitedly made our way to the new QT Sydney for our one night stay. Turning onto Market Street from Elizabeth Street, we were looking for the State Theatre, as we knew the QT Sydney was located next door. You can’t miss the State Theatre, both in its grandeur and art deco stateliness; however, we did have to drive slowly to see where exactly the entrance for QT Sydney was. There was the small, black round QT Sydney sign, replicating the silver and art deco grandness of the State Theatre!

QT Sydney Entrance

QT Sydney‘s greeting busgirl & valet staff members were dressed in costume. The busgirl had a bright orange bob wig that looked like she had stepped out of the Wheels and Doll Baby catalogue, cheeky but popping. The busboy popped up, looking a little like the mime artist, Marcel Marceau, with his cap and suspenders! They were all full of bubbly, friendly, informative energy! The busgirl gave me my valet ticket for my car, our luggage was loaded onto trolley, assured our luggage would be in our room by the time we had checked in. True to their word, our bags were already there waiting for us!

Directed to the lifts that were modern and opulent at the same time, we were greeted by music that had identified that there were two of us in the lift! Just the two of us! The Lift can identify how many people are in the lift and it plays music according to the number of people it is carrying eg. For 1 person, it played Me, Myself & I music, two people it played romantic music and for three-four occupants, it played party music. What a classic! This was awesome!

From the first moment of entering the lobby, I had this overwhelming desire to dance. The music and atmosphere was so dynamic and ‘happy’! This place could change your mindset from hassled and harried to carefree and it’s time to party mood!

So far, the stage was set for an experience, not just accommodation. The stage lights and retro suitcases echoed the art deco/quirky theme. We had stepped into a funky dimension!

Chill out area and Honor bar

Checking in was a musical breeze, staff at reception were extremely friendly and informative. Too the “QT Executive King” on Level 11 we go! We followed the subtle runway lights to our room. Each doorway was lit up with a stage door, theatre light, with the room number lit.

Now! I haven’t seen a room like this ever before. It was an eclectic gift store! Opulent, cut glass items were displayed in floor-length cabinets, superbly backlit to highlight the tall ceilings and spacious size of the room. From message cards, to animal coat hooks, to a well-appointed martini stand, the room delighted your senses as soon as you walked in! Personal touches were evident with personalised welcome notes and gifts.

This really made us feel so welcomed! Ingenious mirror sliding doors divided the bedroom from the bathroom – amazing! QT Sydney’s unique décor mildly carried through into the bathroom, dark charcoal tiles, contemporary bathtub, rainfall showerhead as well as a handheld showerhead giving an around seductive vibe.

Bathroom

Look at this bath tub!

The mini-bar was very well stocked, and what really added to the fun were all the boxed, retro games that could also be purchased. I really loved the candy bar section and DeLonghi Espresso machine.

It was time for my spaQ treatment- I was advised to arrive at least 15min prior to my appointment.

spaQ is located on the Mezzanine level (Level M). Straight out of the lifts, across the corridor, a lovely therapist greeted me. My treatment was confirmed – Relax Massge (60mins).

From their spqQ treatment brochure:

spaQ - Relax Massage - Take a load off. De-frag your system and reboot your mind with this full body therapy that is all about giving your overworked nervous system a long deserved break, ebbing away tension and getting your circulation and energy flow moving again – making it perfect for recovery from a long flight. A sedative yet ultimately wholly reviving blend of tangerine and rose essential oils ensures you’ll be restored to your true self in no time.”

I completed my spaQ Pre-Treatment Consultation form. One of the therapists escorted me to the change room. She explained what were in the bright orange lockers; robe to change into, disposable underwear (g-string or brief), slippers, hanger, towel should I wish to have a shower after my treatment, able to leave any personal belongings and a key to lock. The robe was like nothing I have ever felt before, so I checked out the label, it was from a company Kashwere and the slippers had a soft grip matt feel to them.

Another lovely therapist greeted and escorted me to the treatment room. I removed my robe and slippers. I laid on the bed under a towel and blanket while my therapist waited outside. When my therapist re-entered she dimmed down the lights as she prepared for my treatment.

The music playing was a mixture of calm Asian chimes to soft theatrical rhythms which made me think - QT Sydney wanted you to feel and experience creative arts within every moment. This also included the way my therapist did my massage. The technique was artistic, relaxing and reviving. My therapist asked if the pressure was okay - it was perfect. Waking up from my sedative zone, I had a cup of tea in the sitting room then to change room.

I left spaQ feeling totally relaxed – perhaps a siesta when I get back to my room. I will definitely come back to spaQ in the future for the same treatment and to try their other treatments.

Dining at the Gowings Bar & Grill was an exceptional experience! The waiter’s attention was comfortable without being in your face. Service was perfectly timed and the food, as ordered, was absolutely delicious.

The meals were sheer perfection for taste, freshness, presentation and portion-size. Our starters were from $19AU and mains from $32AU. We had a glass of the House sparkling and red wine, which complemented the meals beautifully.

The waiter tempted us with dessert, unfortunately for our taste buds, we didn’t accept as we were too pleasantly full from our sumptuous meal. This dinner has been by far, one of the best I have had thus far. Thank you, Thank you Gowings Bar & Grill.

Both mum and I were in a satisfied food coma. It was time to go to bed and O-What-A-Bed! It was super king sized, with big fluffy pillows and cuddly doona. The mattress’ firmness was perfect for me – mum would have liked it a little firmer, but for me it was like lying on a cloud.

Woken up by my 6:30am alarm, it was time to get up and start this day. Breakfast was held in the Gowings Bar and Grillfrom 6:30am. I didn’t make a booking, we just walked in. It was quite early, so only a few people we early birds like us. Breakfast menu was a la carte. Fresh juices were made to order and the bircher muesli, although it was runnier than I’m used to, was the best in flavour that I’d ever had.

After breakfast, I went up to my room, collected my things and headed down to reception to check out. Check out was simple and easy. My car was ready for me downstairs in valet. The receptionists, busgirl, busboys and I said goodbye and wished each other a fabulous day and I thanked all for making my stay so amazing.

Truly!….QT Sydney gives you an inner quirky bubbly buzz. It’s not just accommodation; it’s a hotel that instantly makes you feel something inside, has your senses and nerves jiving. 10 out of 10!
