Mediterraneo Suite Home in Rethimno Review - A Contemporary Home at an Ancient City

One of the best experiences I ever had after so many years visiting boutique hotels, villas & private guest houses, was at Mediterraneo Suite Home in Rethimno, Creta. That was unique because of many attributes.

Creta is a blessed island. Not because every time I visit, it feels like I have Cretan blood in my veins, but because it was one of the few islands that stayed pure most of the time, against various conquerors throughout the centuries. Hence, the blonde, blue-eyed, light complexion people and the free and independent vibe that is obvious in any instance. However, Venetians left many good things behind and Mediterraneo Suite Home is one of them.

Mediterraneo Suite Home

Mediterraneo Suite Home is exactly what it says, a Home away from home. An old Venetian home, perfectly located in the Ancient city of Rethimno and totally renovated, with every single detail perfectly taken care of, so that it could satisfy its customers every need. If you drive there, there is a parking space waiting for you, just around the corner. By entering the old city, you pass by an arch while you walk in-between beautiful ancient buildings made of stone. The entrance of Mediterraneo Suite Home is post modern, perfectly combined with the surrounding environment. The MSH consists of three levels. On the ground level, there is the main entrance and a beautiful big bedroom with a private bathroom.

To go upstairs, you have to walk up an artistically made, marble staircase that is hanging from the wall. When you reach the first floor, a thick glass floor stands in front of you and a glass ceiling/skylight above you. The living room is huge, with happy colours, conveying freshness, optimism and vitality. This level, is dominated by typical Venetian stone elements. On the same level, there is a spacious, fully equipped kitchen with my favourite Nespresso coffee machine for me and for all those coffee lovers out there. Six people have the possibility to dine in, stay at the house and enjoy it. Kids are very welcome, hence the kids corner with their bunk beds, sweet little desk, all the educating material from Mediterranean publications and their private bathroom. On the same level, you can find a master bedroom, impeccably coexisting with the ensuite bathroom. There, handmade products are offered, showing the artisanship of the island, under the brand name "Eau De Grece". Inside the master bedroom, one can find a spacious closet, with a washing and drying machine and not only. The hosts of Mediterraneo Suite Home are ready for that even. Detergent and everything that you might need to wash your clothes is there. Last but not least, the Cocomat mattress and sleepers are there to spoil us. I think everyone know by now that sleeping on coco-fibers is one of the best ways to relax at night, when you need it the most.

Post Modern Kitchen

Going up, on the second floor, there is a small room equipped with a day bed and a wooden desk, ideal for work and rest. Right outside, a large terrace is located. Time for barbecue, relaxation or even private parties with friends, are in order. A Jacuzzi is coming soon, which will be a nice surprise!

Going Upstairs

For all those who want to visit a sandy beach, it is only 500m away, while the bars, cafes, restaurants and even the Archeological Museum is at the very close distance of 200m. As the residence is being managed by Hotel Ideon, 24 hour concierge, maintenance & pool service is available just around the corner.
