Spectacular tropical beaches, world-class shopping, exotic cuisine, amazing sights and a rich culture, this is what Thailand, the land of smiles, is all about!
From the exotic beaches to bustling Bangkok one can see families with children, singles, and business people from all over the world enjoying this magical country. The city has its old world charm as well as being new, chic, and trendy. I have been coming to Thailand for ten years and it just gets more enjoyable every time!!! It's vibrant, alive, and its future is very bright!
The islands of Phuket, Ko Samui, Khao Lak, Ko Chang and many othersare voted continually by travel magazines as having the top beaches in the world for tourists. To Phuket travel is very easy and reasonable from Bangkok with daily flights on Bangkok Air. Here one can find top resorts such as the Amari, Sheraton Anantara to the boutique hotels such Andara Resort & Villas and The Bell Pool Villa Resort. Once there you have many choices of activities from a soothing foot massage on the beach to racing jet ski's in the beautiful emerald waters. At the end of the day stroll on the beach, watch breath-taking sunsets, and dine al-fresco at your choice of restaurants on the water’s edge.
You can stay in one of the top hotels such as the Anantara, Westin, Sheraton, or Amari Hotels or be a little more adventurous and find great boutique hotels such as Le Fenix Hotel on Soi 11.
There are four main venues in the heart of Bangkok for shopping along the Skytrain BTS system. The Emporium, Siam Paragon & Discovery, MKB and the new Terminal 21 that just opened this October. Terminal 21 is the new showplace for shopping in Bangkok. It is an amazing complex. Each floor has a different theme such as Paris, Rome, London, San Francisco. This is your one-stop-shopping center with as many restaurants as stores and a gourmet food center to-die-for.
For the bargins and just about anything you want go to MBK shopping center. Here you will find almost everything from beautiful thai silk products, jeans, clothes, new and used electronics, even free Muay Thai boxing outside every Wednesday evening.
An easy taxi ride in Bangkok will get you to the splendors of the Grand Palace, former home of the King and now the showpiece of Thailand's art and culture. Intricate workmanship went into the building of this 10-acre palace with history scenes painted in gold on the walls and the Emerald Buddha in the Wat Phra temple, Thailand's most precious Buddha.
Other sights to see are the famed Jim Thompson house, the man who put Thai silk on the world map, temple Wat Arin, and a boat ride on the Chao Praya river is a must. Asian Oasis, a tour operator in Thailand, has relaxing cruises on vintage golden teak rice barges and also beautiful Thai junk boats down in Phuket. I highly recommend the day trip on the Chao Praya River in Bangkok.
From colorful itinerant street vendors with mild to spicy Thai food such as papaya salad, a Thai favorite, to the top of the world at such restaurants as Vertigo, 61 stories high in the Bayan Tree Hotel, and the Sirocco, seen in the hit movie Hangover 2.
Don’t just take my word for it regarding Bangkok and Thailand. Hear some opinions from people around the globe:
Q. What do you think of Thailand?
Swedish - Agneta Debussy - My husband and I moved here from Sweden 7 years ago and just love it! The climate, the food, the culture, and medical treatment, if you need it, is as good as anywhere in the world at a fraction of the cost. The easygoing way of Thai life really makes it a most comfortable place to live. We love it here and don't plan to move back.
American - Scott Thompson - I came over 17 years ago and was fascinated with Bangkok. It is such an exciting city. I enjoy the Thai’s sense of humor and their relaxed sense about everything. I'm a big fan of Thai food and have now settled down in Bangkok with a Thai wife and two new twin daughters. I'm here to stay!
Thai - Gift - Asian Spa and Relax Manager. I am native Thai who came down from Auttaya, the ancient city and former capital of Thailand. Bangkok has great business opportunities and is now my home. It's all right here!
