Hidden Beach Resort, an au naturel club located in the beautiful Riviera Maya area of Mexico, is know as the only five star nudist resort in the world. It caters to couples or singles over 18 who appreciate an au naturel option.

The website boasts that, “Hidden Beach Resort is for guests who have nothing to hide. It’s designed specifically for nudists, with an intimate size, a secluded location, fun spots for sunning, and a host of nude recreational opportunities.” After a recent trip to the sunny paradise, we totally endorse this unique vacation spot.

The entrance to Hidden Beach Resort is through two huge wooden doors

Come with us to the lush luxurious resort....  As our van approached the guarded entrance wall, it was clear that this is a special place. The huge doors were opened and we entered into a picture perfect world.

We were directed to a small circular building which resembles a huge palapa with giant palm leaves

Inside, there was an enchanting aroma, cold drinks, and the concierge who welcomed us in fluent English. She gave us information sheets and other information and led us to our inviting first floor suite.

Our room included a Jacuzzi hot tub for two next to the sliding glass doors

The suite was compact, but luxurious. All rooms are beachfront. Some rooms on the second and third floors have more square footage, but we were thrilled to be in a “swim up suite”. We smiled as we looked around the room that would be our home for the next week.

A chilled bottle of champagne and a bowl of fresh fruit were waiting for us on the table

All inclusive means all inclusive. Our personal refrigerator was well stocked with beer, water, soft drinks and snacks. Our private bar included full size bottles of rum, scotch, vodka, and of course tequila. The towels were huge and the hairdryer powerful. Our robe and slippers awaited us in the closet and our king size bed included Egyptian cotton sheets.

Outside the doors on our personal patio area were two chairs and a small table

There were steps leading down into the chest high waterway that connects our room with the pool, the swim up bar, and the dining area. Just a few feet away was the beach with lounging chairs, day beds, and the gentle Caribbean Sea. It was time for some food before we unpacked. We could call the 24 hour room service.

We had the option of eating inside La Vista, the air conditioned restaurant which was about 15 seconds from our room

Meals are also served on the covered patio adjacent to the pool area

It is tempting to over-indulge on vacation, most especially at a luxury all inclusive gourmet resort. Over the course of the week, we did happily over-indulge on the delicious cuisine.

If you want to mix and mingle, just get into the morning or afternoon volleyball games in the pool. If that is your choice, you get to know people and bond quickly at a Boutique Resort.

The swim up bar and pool area are the center of the day's social activities

You can enjoy continual drink service from Esmeralda or one of the other waitresses or waiters who see to it that you are never thirsty

Guests range in age mostly from their 30's through their 60's, but there will be some in their 20's and others in their 70's. What they have in common is the desire to enjoy a Mexican get-a-way au naturel. Most of the clientele is from the United States, some from Canada and many from Great Britain and other European Countries. It's a nice mix.

Cooking classes were fun and graduation was the consumption of our dishes

For some guests, this was as much as they wore all week

We donned Hidden Beach aprons to participate in one of the cooking classes and learned how to prepare cerviche at one class and fish at another.

In addition to the cooking lessons, mixology classes or wine tastings provide a casual setting in which to interact with other guests

The Moonlight Lounge

Many evening programs are held in the Moonlight Lounge, a huge open sided covered area which includes a bar, hot tub, pool table, stage, open space and scattered seating areas.

We didn't get too close to the fire show performers

The precision and skills of the acrobats at the circus show were impressive

We enjoyed some local culture as we watched traditional Mayan dancers

In addition to the impressive fire show, enjoyable circus show, and interesting Mayan presentation, we enjoyed an amusing karaoke night and a Las Vegas style casino night.

The Naked Painting Party made its debut as a new activity during our stay. Most of the art work done by guests consisted of flowers and decorations, but the evening was a hit and the resort plans to hold two more of these events next year.

This guest had no idea what someone painted on his back

This party was a big hit

Some guests choose to participate in evening programs which others have dinner and then are early to bed and back on the beach or around the pool as the sun comes up.

Hidden Beach offers diverse dining possibilities. Many guests enjoy the superior quality international menu in La Vista Restaurant on premises either inside the air conditioned dining room or al fresco - on the patio adjacent to the pool.

What could be better than having your morning cup of coffee right outside your room and in the water

Breakfast includes the traditional hot and cold offerings, mexican style egg dishes, and made to order omelets. Instead of the traditional juices, we sampled vegetable drinks with breakfast as we dined poolside. Guests could begin the day with a custom Bloody Mary made with a choice of five different vodkas.

An assortment of delicious cheeses and cold cuts awaits the guests every morning

The fruit assortment was extensive, fresh and delicious

My husband really enjoyed the eggs ranchero

The regular lunch menu included crisp salads, a variety of burritos, burgers, and cerviches and sea food cocktails. I always ordered some of my favorite delicious guacamole as a side dish.

Poolside lunch time cook-outs included fish, flank steak, hamburgers or chorizo

In addition to the regular international dinner menu with its meat, chicken, fish, and vegetarian dishes, special culinary theme nights are held every week. Italian, Mexican and Asian dishes, some quite unique, were added to the selection. How about this for an antipasto: Pears flamed in brandy with gorgonzola cream.

The Shrimp presentation was appetizing and the meal was delicious

I enjoyed the beautiful presentations of the dishes

Those at Hidden Beach willing to cover up may dine at one of the seven restaurants at the adjacent 282 room Gourmet Inclusive El Dorado Seaside Suites Resort. Most often, guests opt to remain at the more luxurious Hidden Beach with its au naturel option and more intimate setting.

There's always a staff member ready to make sure you are never thirsty

One of the key components in the success of Hidden Beach is the staff. Many of them have been at the resort since it opened eleven years ago. They are outgoing, friendly people who quickly learn your name and your drink and dining preferences. Sit down at breakfast and your coffee or tea is immediately delivered just the way you like it.

There is an air conditioned workout room on the grounds with state of the art equipment

A larger exercise room is located next door at El Dorado Seaside Suites, but clothing is required by those taking the few minute walk. Massages are available at Hidden Beach or guests make go next door for massages or other spa services.

There is a tendency of Hidden Beach guests to plan return visits to coincide with others that they meet there. I attribute this to the small size that does allow people to get to know each other. I also theorize that such a beautiful resort and such superior facilities and services bring out the best in people. So, guests truly enjoy their interactions.

We truly enjoyed our visit to Hidden Beach Resort and will be returning to this five star au naturel resort.

Outside of the resort, there's much to do in the area including the weekly cruise, scuba diving, snorkeling, visits to the near-by Mayan ruins in Tulum, and of course, shopping. Lomas Travel has a desk at the resort and can arrange for excursions.

Hidden Beach is a member of the Karisma Group of upscale hotels and resorts. For more information on Hidden Beach, visit Hidden Beach Resort.

Note: Wonder why most photos don't include people? Due to the strict privacy requirements at the resort, we have very few populated photos and those only with permission. Most pictures required an early wake up time to shoot before the guests settled in for the day. While Hidden Beach Resort provides an au naturel option, it is not mandatory and there are guests who prefer not to exercise that option.
