Danat Jebel Dhanna Resort Abu Dhabi: Getting Away From it All

My wife and I needed to get away. We had worked very hard over three months without a break.  We didn’t need somewhere with glitz and glamour or to be “on the scene”.  We just needed some time alone and rest and relaxation.  When that is the objective then being in the middle of nowhere is a good thing.  No shopping malls, night clubs, or trendy hang outs, just a nice place to get a way from it all recharge our batteries and reconnect.  Such a place, two hour west of Abu Dhabi in the western region of the United Arab Emerates (U.A.E.),  is the Danat Jebel Dhanna resort.  A 109 room resort on the pristine coast of the Arabian Sea.

Upon entering the hotel you find yourself in the center atrium which over looks the grounds of the hotel. The interior follows the ocean theme with shades of blue and wavy contours integrated into the décor.   The staff is extremely attentive and friendly and ensure your stay is a pleasant one. Our room was exactly what we needed with a king size uber comfortable bed and all the amenities one would expect in a five star hotel.

We arrived late at night and when we awoke, the view from our terrace was amazing. Just beyond the 800 meter beach of powdery sand is a clear azure expansive ocean.  The water is very shallow here and one can walk out 50 meters and still find oneself only waist high in water.  We see families with young children splashing about and enjoying the refreshingly cool water and time together.

The grounds are nicely arranged with a few hammocks for some extra relaxing under the shade of palm trees. At the center of the outdoor space is the large oval pool almost an ocean onto itself. The pool is made complete with a swim up bar and staff at the ready with towels and other services.  The international management and staff was exceptionally welcoming.  Nihal of the food and beverage department is from Shri Lanka and  was very friendly and quick with a joke and a laugh. The assistant manager, Amr,  from Egypt, took the time to show us around and made sure that we were well taken care of.

Day Dreaming

Friendly Staff

Dining at Danat Jebel Dhanna Resort was a stand out experience.  Our first taste was at the Tides Restaurant which is decorated in the azure and ochre shades of the ocean and the desert.  This all-day dining spot features a range of Asian and Continental dishes.  This is not your typical hotel buffet. It is fresh, well prepared and tasty dishes from Arabic dishes to Sushi.  Lamb chops, steak, vegan dishes, seafood, and Arabic specialties all made their way on and pleasurably off my plate.  The wide variety of dishes with flawless preparation and taste, matched with great service, made the dining experience one to remember.

Zaitoun Italian Restaurant provides a more intimate dining experience.  It’s a contemporary Italian fine-dining  and the perfect way to spend an evening alone with that special someone.  The wine selection is considerable and the dishes were well prepared. I opted for the garlic prawn which did not disappoint.   It was a wonderful romantic dinner which was just what we needed as part of our getaway experience.

After our special dinner at Zaitoun, we went for a romantic walk along the beach.  We took  off our shoes and held hands listening to the sounds of the ocean and to each other.  We reflected on our special few days that we shared at Jebel Dhanna, and how much we enjoyed being away from it all.  It was just what we needed to recharge and reconnect and will give us a few special memories to take back with us.
