Bangkok's Soi 11 - Possibly the Most Exciting and Popular Street in The City!

The word Soi means street in Thai and this one has just about everything one could imagine from new hotels, a variety of great restaurants, unusual hangouts, roof top chill bars and night clubs. At 3 in the morning the taxis are still lining the street.

Soi 11 Annex

We’ll start off down Sukhumvit's Soi 11 sub-soi with Cheap Charlie’s, one of Bangkok’s favorite dive bars. The unusual outdoor only bar was founded by a man named Charlie in 1982.  What makes Charlie’s unique is it’s funky décor. People will come by and bring things to add so it’s ever changing in appearance.

Stash & The Alchemist

Continuing down the annex you find Stash, a trendy bar and bistro with orginal cocktails. Next door is The Alchemist serving exquisite cocktails and live music every Wednesday night.  Just a few steps away is Snapper New Zealand, recently expanded and awarded the “Best Fish & Chips in Bangkok" by BK Magazine.

The homemade batter is much lighter than usual from adding a touch of soda water.  A large room but a cozy feeling with wall covered in fisherman’s mementos.  The fish is all shipped directly from New Zealand and they have a most friendly and well stocked bar.

Another couple of restaurants still on the small annex are Tapas, Mexican cuisine,

Tapas Cafe - Mexican Style

Chez Pape - French Cuisine

Chez Pape, french food from the south of France and Gallery 11, one of my favorites, with delicious traditional Thai food.  You can take Thai cooking lessons from the local chefs.

Back out on the main Soi 11 you'll next find Rosabieng Restaurant.  This was a private home orginally then converted years back and surrounded by lush tropical gardens, a great spot to sit and enjoy a beverage while watching the bustling street life.  They have good live Jazz in the garden every night.

Continue down the Soi, next is Zaks Wine Bar and Pub, another private home that was converted to a restaurant serving fusion food and tasty wood fired pizza.  Zaks also has an excellent selection of fine wines from around the world.

We're only half way down the Soi and the hot spots are yet to come, so I'll continue in part two with the Australian Pub that serves crocodile kebab, a few more restaurants and pubs and then up to the roof top chill bars and crazy electro disco VW buses that have been converted into street bars.  Only in Bangkok- the most visited city in the world!
