Cinderella Carriage is a VIP area within Bar 190 in The Gore Hotel

The Gore Hotel in London recently completed a major £3 million bedroom refurbishment.  Built in 1892, The Gore blends the characteristics of an art-lover's grand private home with the relaxed ambience of a decadent members’ club.  The hotel’s 50 guestrooms are among the most enchanting in London.  All feature antique furniture, period pictures and ornate beds, which combine perfectly with modern luxuries such as flat screen televisions and DVD players in every room, Frette linen and Aveda toiletries.  Complimentary wireless broadband access is available throughout the entire hotel.  The Gore Hotel exudes a wealth of history and many of its original features have been retained during the refurbishment of the bedrooms.

Over the years, The Gore has welcomed many celebrities and famous faces.  American icon, Judy Garland who played Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, visited on so many occasions that she was often referred to as a resident.  In the aptly named Judy Garland Room, guests can sleep in Ms Garland’s gilt wood bed.  A wide range of her films on DVD are available in the room, as well as a pair of bright ruby slippers to leave guests dreaming of the yellow brick road.  The en-suite bathroom is a work of art with a mural of a roman chariot hand-painted on the tiles.  Rich fabrics, stained glass windows, double sinks and an enamel bath with a marble surround are all featured within this room.

Also be sure to visit Bar 190 where guests “may go to the ball” with the introduction of Cinderella’s Carriage.  Located to the rear of Bar 190 within The Gore Hotel, Cinderella’s Carriage is an elaborate raised seating booth which is recessed into the mahogany-panelled walls.  Made from intricate gold-painted wood, draped in floor-to-ceiling red velvet curtains, this intimate seating area is reminiscent of an elegant Elizabethan carriage.  The rich red curtains are swept back and tied with gold brocade, while three large black ostrich plumes positioned on top of the carriage complete the overall look.  This private area can be rented out for for a minimum spend of £100. Cinderella Carriage can be booked for a pre-post theatre/dinner party or for the whole evening for a maximum of 6 people. Complimentary canapés will be provided or special catering can be arranged.  A resident DJ plays on the weekends at Bar 190 and there is an excellent selection of cocktails and extensive wine list.

The Green Room

After enjoying a couple of drinks guests can head over to Bistro 190 also within The Gore.  Bistro 190 is a charming restaurant which features lunch, late night dining until 1 am and a special pre and post theatre dinner menu.  David Newstead, head chef at Bistro 190 created a modern British menu and only uses the freshest, top quality British produce.  The menu includes delicious starters such as Duck, foie gras & parma ham terrine wrapped in leeks with toasted rustic bread and main courses include tender braised lamb shank served with char grilled truffle polenta cake or Herb crusted Scottish salmon in a fresh broth to name a few.
