There are literally hundreds of great hotels to stay in when you come to Bangkok and location is always key. The Ambassador Hotel is in a prime location for business, shopping, and entertainment. It is confidently located right off Sukhumvit Road, the chic shopping center of Bangkok and is just a short walk from the modern Skytrain. In 2008 a $1.7 million dollar renovation was begun and should be completed in early 2009.
I was greeted with exceptional Thai hospitality from the Doorman, Pipachpong, who has been with the hotel for over 20 years, to the receptionist and everywhere I went in the hotel.
The grand lobby features a unique blend of traditional Thai elements as well as contemporary flair and grandeur. On the second floor there is a spa, swimming pool and in the hotel tower a fitness center, complete with weight room and outdoor running track.
My room was a tower-privileged suite fit for a king and exceptionally well priced. I expected to pay $250 per night but this deluxe room was only $120. There was an additional room attached to set up your computer and hold casual business meetings. Also included was access to the Privilege Lounge for a light breakfast in the morning and hors d’oeuvres with wine and beer in the afternoon.
All 820 rooms and suites in the Tower Wing, Main Wing, and serviced apartments are fully air-conditioned and equipped with satellite and cable TV, mini–fridges and many other amenities.
After checking in I went to the Lobby Lounge for a refreshing Mango Tango and then explored some of the facilities in the hotel.
The Ambassador has a breakfast and lunch buffet with Thai, Chinese, Indian, Western and vegetarian selections of cuisine. The Hotel was the “Gold Medal Winner” for its Tom Yam Kung. This is a delicious traditional Thai soup made basically with shrimp, lemon grass, mushrooms and mild or spicy chili pepper.
The Ambassador Hotel has a business and conference facility, and is therefore a primary choice for business people. The conference rooms can accommodate 50 to 2000 people.
