We arrived at the Sheraton Tiberias, after a day spent touring Northern Israel, tired and thirsty. We were very happy that the hotel had drinks waiting for us and other tourist as well. There was water and several juices to quench your thirst and treats to eat sitting on a table as you entered the hotel.
The Sheraton Tiberias is located in a biblical area that is rich in historic and archeological sites of all religions on a promenade next to the world-famous Sea of Galilee. This is a wonderful area for outdoor adventurers or history buffs, and it is a great place to have a conference or just relax. Another special feature is the ancient Hot Springs whose healing powers are still enjoyed today.
After our quick easy check in at the Sheraton Tiberias , we discovered things that make this a very special place to stay. There is a comfortable lobby where you can sit and visit with an area that serves snacks or light lunch and offers entertainment in the evening. It is a great place for families who want to get away from the vigor's of the daily chores at home with a place for the children to relax and enjoy the fresh air. There are a number of shops selling lovely gift items, or novelties. Many of its 258 guest rooms have balconies with view of the Sea of Galilee and the Golan Heights. Amenities also include Cable TV, air-conditioning, direct-dial telephone, coffee set, and of course 24-hour room service and Wireless Internet connection is available in each room.
Our room at the Sheraton Tiberias was one of the hotels 19 Junior Suites, complete with a balcony and a bedroom area separated from the sitting area with a couch, and lounge chairs, coffee table and a large flat screen television screen. The bedroom area also had its own TV. Our king size bed was very comfortable with lots of pillows and a nice blanket. We found the fridge, the pot to make hot water in the room, the packets for regular or decaf coffee and the several flavors of tea very user friendly. And what could be nicer than the chocolates and small box of stuffed dates provided. The view from our room allowed us to watch rowing, speed boating and other sports in the Sea of Galilee.
Making the Sheraton Tiberias even more luxurious was the beautiful swimming pool, covered and heated in the winter, the new Bereniki Spa offering an outdoor, covered Jacuzzi facing the swimming pool and the Sea of Galilee and an indoor Jacuzzi, The large gym adjacent to the pool has new state-of-the-art work out equipment and wet and dry saunas, treatment rooms including a treatment suite for couples that offer a wide range of spa treatments and massages given by professionals.
A buffet breakfast was available at the King Herod's Court restaurant. In the morning we could enjoy magnificent views of the Sea of Galilee while relaxing with a complete fresh Israeli breakfast, which is huge. Among the available items are juice, cold cereals cut up fruit, assorted flavored yogurts, cut up Israeli salad, marinated cukes, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, veggies, assorted cheeses, herring, lox, white fish salad, pancakes, rolls bread, coffee and assorted teas and omelets made to order, scrambled eggs and hard boiled eggs. There is plenty to eat.
One night we came in hungry after the hotel dinner was over. The staff kindly recommended a very excellent restaurant at the waters’ edge. It was close to the hotel and the food was great. All the fish from these waters are wonderful; especially St. Peters fish, no matter how it is prepared. It was a lovely evening.
A pleasant walk from the hotel goes around an inlet of water, which has a boardwalk with entrances to other hotels, restaurants. The boardwalk has both fine dining and quick pickups such as pizza or a hamburger with fries, or just coffee are available. There are also shops for tourists to browse in within walking distance of the hotel.
On our last night at the Sheraton Tiberias , we were joined by our newlywed cousin, her husband and his parents for a wonderful dinner feast.
We were very pleased we had the chance to stay at the Sheraton Moriah Tiberias and would strongly recommend it to others traveling this way. Maybe our next visit will include a stay in the impressive Presidential suite that can be booked for those extra-special occasions.
