This chic boutique hotel is a quiet oasis in bustling Bangkok and quite a departure from the big chain hotels. LeFenix is noticeably comfortable and cozy, tucked in down the happening Soi 11 off Sukhumvit Road but still an easy walk to the modern Skytrain. I actually discover Kleenex when out with friends at a chill bar, The Nest, which is located on the roof of this hotel.
When you walk in the door the noise and hustle of Bangkok dims to the trendy lounge compilation music of Hotel Costes. The décor is chic and hip German fashion with cutting edge fashion photography on the walls.
Le Fenix Hotel, with merely 147 designer rooms, presents an intimate feel unlike what one experiences in a chain hotel. The staff is extremely welcoming with traditional Thai hospitality. They take an interest in anything you might want to know about the hotel, the city, shopping, or sights to see around town. Such nice service is refreshing in today’s busy world.
Checking in was quick and efficient. They asked if I had a laptop computer and said they would automatically give me a password and ID for free use in my room or anywhere on the property. Very cool!
My room was modern, clean, and very hip as they describe in their brochure. They have a 7th floor indoor new-age swimming pool that looks out over the busy soy 11. Adjacent is a new fitness center with all the latest equipment.
After settling into my room I went to the “Flow” bar to relax with a glass of wine and to enjoy a quite view overlooking the busy Soy 11 full of street vendors selling fresh and clean papaya salad, chicken on a stick, and a variety of other delicious Thai foods. The street was bustling with brightly colored taxi’s, motorbikes everywhere, and a baby elephant with handler strolling down the sidewalk. I sat there captivated for over an hour. What an amazing city!
For diner the first night I had the choice of an international fusion cuisine menu of……..
• Cubed Pork Tenderloin Cinnamon Satay, Peanut Butter Sauce.
• Pork Yellow Curry served with Steamed Jasmine Rice
• Sweet & Sour Chicken Cantonese Style served with Steamed Jasmine Rice.
Later my Thai friends joined me and we went up on the hotel roof to a chill bar called bar call “Nest.” It was a warm and balmy night, full moon and the skyline of Bangkok was all around us. We sat on big comfortable sofa’s enjoying good conversation with relaxing chill music and fine wine. Roof top bars are popping up all over Bangkok and with warm evenings it’s really hip with the locals and tourist. The nest offers fine dining, cocktails and beverages, perfect if you’re not into noisy crowded places.
The Wallpaper, a city guide to Bangkok, raves about the Nest Bar: “This is an under-the-radar rooftop bar on one of Bangkok’s hippest hotels. Make for the padded hammocks and daybeds strewn across the manicured lawn. On weekend mornings, grilled banana pancakes go down well with champagne.”
I will definitely recommend Le Fenix to my friends traveling to Bangkok for either business or vacation and I plan to revisit my new friends this property on my next trip !
