Leggy Bird Designs Review - Skill, Creativity and Lots of Energy

When I go shopping for special accessories for my home, I must admit my preference is for out-of-the-ordinary shops with unique items at prices that don’t break my bank. So, when a shop enhances the customer’s experience (in this case me) with an accompanying internal crying desire to buy everything in sight, I stop and wonder why is everything so right at one special shop? The special people?

During an excursion to Leggy Bird Designs, an unusually named store at 406 North Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville, IL.,  I wasn’t quite sure what was 'in store' for me. Let me start by saying I was ‘blown away’,  excited and awed after meeting the quartet of talented and gracious owners.  The boutique offers an eclectic ensemble of everything old and new that included everything from artisan pillows with sayings like “Hello Sunshine” to an array of vintage bar-ware  sets at truly reasonable prices, to unusual upholstered ottomans with vintage bowling pins for legs, to retro jewelry from decades past to special, magical area rugs.

The 'leggy ladies' are developing a creative and unique approach to total involvement, the Leggy Life  Lifestyle Classes concept. This approach will offer guests wide and varied opportunities such as taking Yoga Lessons by candlelight, attending lectures related to life-enhancement, take artistic workshops and seminars and there is thought of a food component also.  These opportunities are bound to swell the shop’s growing legion of fans.

I have always admired women who have special talents and skills without being braggadocios. Especially when these same women had other careers (and still do) while bonding together in their mutual encore career as owners of Leggy Bird Designs.

The four women owners who will meet and greet you are Laurie King, Kelly Murphy, Carol Carani and Victoria Lidstrom. Any of the lovely owners can help you articulate your design visions using their acquired antiques and vintage pieces or helping you recreate your own furnishings.

Laurie King is an expert at reinterpreting and refurbishing furniture using painting, sewing and reupholstering.  She is also an astute antique hunter and brings many unique pieces into the store, often converting trash into sought after treasures. This is what she said skills that she has recently acquired. "We are so excited to be one of the exclusive carriers of the Amy Howard at home paint line. Now anyone can transform their furniture into gorgeous treasures. We will be teaching all the DIYers how to use all the products to achieve these exquisite finishes. It is so much fun."

Kelly Murphy is excited about sharing her skills in locating wonderful antique accessories and furniture, after a 20-year career furnishing apartments for corporate employees during job assignments in Chicagoland.

Victoria Lidstrom and Carol Carani work with their partners in The Leggy Life, but also own a Design and Architectural Firm appropriately called Leggy Bird Designs.  The women of Leggy Bird Designs have earned numerous accolades for their work in their four short years together.

For the 2011 Infant Welfare Society Showcase in Lake Forest, Leggy Bird was selected from among 43 interior and landscape designers to have the distinctive honor of revamping the show home kitchen and master bathroom. The event, held bi-annually since 1985, attracts 10,000 guests over a three-day weekend. Leggy Bird also earned national recognition when their kitchen remodeling graced the cover of Beautiful Kitchens & Baths magazine in Spring 2012.

The Leggy Life along with Leggy Lifestyle Classes includes a new partner and renown Yogini Yoga instructor Sam Doughty.  The  shop is a continually evolving showcase for new items that include new product lines licensed from other artisans.

Visit the shop often and check out what’s happening next on their website.
