The MA111 offers technical specifications supporting all of today's current standards. It is 802.11b wireless standard. It has up to 11 Mbps of wireless connectivity, which is ample for most cable and DSL providers. There is also an auto rate fall back system that adjusts automatically for greater distance. It is friendly with most operating systems. I have even heard that it can be configured for Red Hat Linux systems with some time put into locating the proper drivers.
The MA111 is a USB adapter so you can just plug it in and go. This makes it an ideal product even for the most novice of computer users. It can also be used with a Tivo system. When Tivo places its calls for updates it does so over the DSL (rather than placing a phone call) which is a great time saver.
Since major airports and many hotel chains now have wireless high-speed internet access it is also a good resource when traveling. The MA111 comes with the capability of 40/64 and 128 bit WEP encryption built in, so you can just plug it into your laptop, grab any number of local wireless signals and surf away.
Installation of this product is painless to say the least. The installation CD is included and it takes just 30 seconds to install the drivers. There is a very user-friendly interface, as with most Netgear products, for adjusting settings and configuring the MA111. The user manual provides very in-depth coverage of settings so even those who are not computer guru's can navigate with ease. For those of you that run Windows XP on your computer you'll find that XP is very wireless friendly.
A 5-foot USB cable is included so that MA111 adapter can be moved around for a better signal strength if needed. A new software version 2.0.1 is available now as well.
After reviewing this product I would have to say that for those of you who want to cut the wires and run free, this is one of the most easy to use, cost effective devices on the market. So don't wait any longer - get a hold of an MA111 and set your self free.
