Alienware m3400 - Review - A New "Lifestyle Laptop"

If you are tech savvy and still want to maintain your cool lifestyle Alienware's latest notebook is for you - a perfect combination of 'cool,' portability and performance.

Upon receiving the box from Alienware, I opened it and was blown away with what I saw. Not only did the computer itself look hot' but all of the extras were awesome.  I was just amazed at the sight of all of the goodies that came with the unit.  All I kept saying to myself was, 'This is going to be a blast to set up and play with!'

This is one of the coolest laptops I have seen in a long time. Not only does it look cool, with it's sleek design and glowing logo on the lid, but it also boasts the perfect blend of light-weight portability and sturdy durability.  Once I got it powered up, I immediately took notice of it's crystal clear screen, soft touch keypad and top of the line track pad. It just felt good to use. Another key element that I enjoyed was the quality and clarity of the small yet powerful sound system.

An ongoing issue for the build-your-own-PC industry is notebook computers.  One solution to this problem is to build a laptop with a company which is a cooler than the normal manufacturer, one who understands the needs of the hip enthusiast.  Alienware did it again...and surpassed the expectations of us all.  Not only did I get everything I wanted, it was all ready to go.  Set up and use of all of the extras was simple.

An obvious perk of buying an Alienware system is all the cool gear included with the purchase. Our kit included a soft case, an aluminum briefcase, an AVerMedia TV tuner kit, a REMOTE CONTROL, a phone cable for the modem, recovery disks, as well as extensive instructions for everything. If there is a cool new product out there...Alienware will include it for you.

Choosing a new notebook computer is not the easiest thing to do these days, with all of the choices out there.  Alienware simplifies this for many of us because Alienware is something much different than your average computer manufacturer.  A system like the Sentia m3400 is a statement about your lifestyle.  The Sentia is built to be affordable and portable. In other words, this is Alienware's notebook for the masses, for business and or travel.  I, for one, agree with Alienware's statetment of difference.  When you demand high performance, superior build quality, innovative style, and award-winning support, turn to Alienware to deliver the definitive solution.  Alienware delivers the peace of mind that can only come from an unparalleled tradition of excellence and an impeccable reputation for creating systems powered by the most advanced, non-proprietary technology. With the addition of Alienware's award-winning support team, your critical needs for performance, dependability, and service are not only met, they are surpassed.  That's the Alienware difference.

To start up into Windows took only about 25 seconds and from there on out it was as responsive as any high end machine.  Alienware does not clutter your life with a lot of preinstalled programs.  The extras on this Media Center Edition computer were CyberLink PowerDVD, Nero v6.6.0.13, a few Media Center Edition items, and BisonCam, a webcam application.  Even after opening several big programs including; a bunch of large images in Photoshop, browsers, Outlook, turning on a video and checking email, I was completly amazed by the speed and performance that I got from this notebook.  Being able to customize your computer is a huge plus, but more than that, it is a great relief to not have to spend the first 3 hours loading the programs you want and uninstalling the ones you don't.

Overall the system was fast and very capable for a laptop of its size.  Alienware delivered the system with some smart upgrades, all of which made a considerable impact on my impression of the machine. The Pentium M 760 is a great processor and it's 2.0 GHz speed can definitely be felt.  The performance so far has been unbeatable.  I can't say that I have found a flaw yet.  I esspecially like the speed at which I can move between programs and how quickly the machine responds to my commands.

This new portable gaming system is a light, 4.5-pound system that lasts about three hours on a charge. The Sentia m3400 features a 14-inch widescreen LCD, a 2.0GHz Pentium M Processor 760, and 1GB of RAM. Windows XP Media Center Edition and up to 120GB of hard drive capacity will store all of your music, videos, and images and keep them easily accessible through Media Center's straightforward interface. Other features include 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi, a 1.3-MP Webcam, an 8X Dual Layer DVD+RW/DVD-RW drive, and a 4-in-1 memory card reader.

AVerMedia TV Tuner

The cool, new AVerMedia TV tuner I can now take my favorite shows wherever I want. This TV Tuner offers fast and exceptionally clear video! Watch, pause, rewind and record live TV and use the electronic programming guide to pre-schedule recording of your favorite shows. Recorded programs and even home videos from your VCR or Camcorder can be burned to DVD using this awesome extra.
