WALK WITH US SAN FRANCISCO – A Smorgasbord of Chefs and Food

The "GRAND GELINAZ! SHUFFLE” was such a hit last year in the Bay Area that it sent ripples around the world and now the daring and iconoclastic minds behind GELINAZ are getting ready for their follow up event in the US: "WALK WITH US SAN FRANCISCO,” On JULY 11TH they will be bringing together no fewer than 16 of the world’s most reputable chefs.

On this night, two very special and innovative dinners will be happening simultaneously at Corey Lee’s duo of highly creative restaurants downtown: Benu and In Situ, his new collaborative project within the SFMOMA. Lee will be joined by 15 other top chefs who will be teaming up to create seriously delicious and groundbreaking food.

The 16 chefs will be broken in two teams of eight and will be working in duos. 40 diners at each location (Benu and In Situ) will experience the chef's’ offerings as a multi-course tasting menu broken into two rounds of appetizers, a main course, and a dessert.

Each pair of chefs will create a dish based on one of 4 chosen seasonal ingredients and will then share the recipe with the other 3 teams at their restaurant who will make a “remix” dish, using the same 4 ingredients but adding their personal spin and flair. Thus a four-course format will become a 16-course performance or “matrix” of flavor that investigates how bright culinary minds think about and treat the same ingredients. Each course will showcase the original dish and then three different riffs on these flavors. The end result will be daring, groundbreaking, and most importantly, delicious.

Andrea Petrini and Alexandra Swenden, the creative minds behind GELINAZ! strongly believe in crossing borders and pushing the boundaries of food, articulating that: “contemporary cuisine needs to find new ways to get in touch with a wider, younger public, mingling and dialoguing with art, music and other fields of expression. It needs to be as cutting edge as playful and in phase with the worldwide pop culture.”

Towards this end, GELINAZ! aims to playfully question and deconstruct the traditionally stern and cutthroat world of fine dining. In its place Swenden and Petrini seek to create an environment of “no competition and experimentation in a collective way beyond meritocracy and classified roles.”

This is the third “Walk With Us” event that GELINAZ! has hosted, with previous events in London and Sao Paulo being met with sold out crowds and critical acclaim.

 

In true GELINAZ! style, WALK WITH US SAN FRANCISCO won’t be without quirks and serendipities. Guests should be prepared to have their evening shaken up, to depart their allocated restaurants and ‘Walk With Us’….
