Serendipity 3 is known throughout Las Vegas as being home to some of the most decadent and unique desserts on the Strip. If you look no further than the dessert menu you would be overlooking a flavorful menu as well as missing the opportunity to taste some ingredients that are being grown right outside of Serendipity 3’s front door.
Serendipity 3 at Caesars Palace recently transformed its decorative floral and fauna into the Las Vegas Strip’s first seasonal garden as a way to improve environmental sustainability. The garden features an assortment of vegetables and spices including; sunflowers, cherry tomatoes, globe artichokes, roma tomatoes, Japanese eggplant, bell peppers (yellow, red, green), rosemary, basil, cilantro, curly parsley, chives, mint, shallots, dill, marjoram, oregano, tarragon, savory, hyssop, anise, coriander and garlic.
This new garden allows Serendipity 3 Executive Chef Michael Wolf to incorporate homegrown produce into a number of Serendipity 3 dishes. The dishes on the menu that use ingredients directly from the garden include; the heirloom tomato salad (tomatoes and basil), the New York Steak of Mind (rosemary) and the margherita pizza (basil). In addition, several of the restaurant’s cocktails contain ingredients from the garden such as the cucumber basil gin rickey and the madras mojito.
“Our seasonal edible garden allows us to help the environment while improving the quality and freshness of our food,” Chef Wolf said. “Guests enjoy seeing where the ingredients are grown, especially since a wide variety of our menu items benefit from the herbs.”
There certainly is no lack of freshness and flavor in the heirloom tomato salad even among the ingredients that are not from the Serendipity 3 garden. It had to be a bit of creative genius on the part of Chef Wolf to have such a flavorful selection of salads in a restaurant known for its desserts. What better way to have an amazing meal while still leaving plenty of room for a dessert that will surely overpower your appetite. The heirloom salad is also the perfect meal to combat the Las Vegas heat, light, refreshing and cool. The freshness in the salad brings out all of the subtle differences in the assortment of tomatoes while the true punch in this dish comes from the strong flavor of the buratta cheese, a perfect pairing. Combine that with the fresh basil, a nice crunchiness from toasted marcona almonds and the light herb vinaigrette and this leaves one salad that will keep you coming back time and time again.
The salad menu at Serendiptiy 3 is so ranging that no matter what you are in the mood for, you are likely to find it one way or another in one of their salads. The other salad that really will grab you in terms of flavor is the “Serendipity Chicken Chop Chop.” One bite of this salad and you will feel as if you are in the middle of a garden with the wide assortment of vegetables featuring artichoke hearts, red peppers, hearts of palm, cucumbers to go along with mixed with chicken, almonds and a rich feta cheese.
While the salads are fantastic, you might be thinking to yourself “I didn’t come to Las Vegas for a salad.” I would start and end with the crab cakes as the one thing you must have off of the Serendipity 3 menu. Chef Wolf could give a class on how to properly make a crab cake, although why give out the secret to the best crab cake in Las Vegas. It is not just the fresh crab that makes that makes these so flavorful; it is the fact that they are probably 99% crab. Just enough ingredients to make sure it stays in once piece, this is one crab cake where all you really taste is the crab.
The rest of the menu takes you in any direction of your liking. You can order the “Hangover Omelette” that contains bacon, French fries, cheese and mushrooms, what a way to start your day after a long Las Vegas night. The Mac & Cheese certainly can be placed in the annals of the gourmet versions that have been created in the past few years. A great blend of flavorful cheeses that are drizzled with the essence of aromatic truffles and topped with panko crust, this dish alone will leave you satisfied. You will also come across steak, pizza and footlong hot dogs.
Before you even get a chance to look at the dessert menu, Serendipity 3 will try to entice you with something sweet. The Frrrozen Hot Chocolate is simply one of those items that you can’t leave the restaurant without trying. This is no milkshake or frozen drink that just has the name frozen hot chocolate thrown into the description. If you took a cup of hot chocolate and sat down to enjoy it with a polar bear and let it sit for an hour this is what you would get. They must have created this for those 110 degree Las Vegas afternoons as you get the entire flavor of hot chocolate but perfectly chilled. Some of the flavors you can choose include; amaretto almond, orrreo, mint frrrozen, just to name a few.
Finally we are at that time of the meal when we get to peruse the dessert menu. Don’t waste your time looking anywhere else, the Sundae list is where it all begins and ends. How can you go wrong with “Deep
–Fried Oreos and Ice Cream,” “Carrot Cake Sundae” or the “Forbidden Broadway
Sunday,” but at the end of the day the “Lookie, Lookie, Gimme Cookie” is the one and only choice. This Sundae gives you it all, chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream and an assortment of full-sized warm and soft cookies. You better have a few friends with you because the sundaes are huge and they don’t skimp on the toppings.
You certainly could make a visit to Serendipity 3 to savor one of the lavish desserts to celebrate for any reason or simply because you are in Las Vegas. The better idea would be to make it an experience and take in the entire menu from start to end and enjoy the view of the Las Vegas Strip with friends while you do more than just satisfy your sweet tooth.
