Libertine Social Restaurant Review – The Tastiest Social Setting in all of Las Vegas

For his third Las Vegas restaurant James Beard Award-winning chef Shawn McClain undertook the daunting task of trying to tie in a social and fun setting along with an upscale and beautiful restaurant and then finishing it off with gourmet food and cocktails. Libertine Social, located at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, brings all of those together in what is a truly memorable experience from your opening cocktail all the way through dessert.

Libertine Social Dining Room

Libertine Social lives up to its name with a social setting for every occasion imaginable. Upon entering Libertine Social you are immediately greeted with a breathtaking bar that also offers you a more casual and relaxed setting with leather couches that allow you to get comfortable with your group and kick and watch the game of the day. Then you are taken to the restaurant that will allow you a glimpse into what you will be eating with the open kitchen that you can view from the dining room. Finally, to enjoy the Las Vegas evenings, there is a fabulous patio overlooking the Mandalay Bay pools.

Foie Gras Mousse.

Whether joining friends at the bar or having dinner at Libertine Social the best way to take advantage of all that the menu has to offer is to share a group of the small plates. The must have dish is one that Chef Shawn has made famous, his foie gras mousse. This has all of the richness of foie gras but has been taken to a silky and smooth experience that is simply the most unique foie gras experience. The decadence continues on the menu with the modern fried egg. This is nothing like the fried egg you are used to, the egg is whipped into foam, paired with a fresh corn pudding and topped with American sturgeon caviar that is all brought together in an eggshell. The trio of ingredients all comes together into a perfectly balanced and powerful appetizer. Two other unique dishes to Libertine Social are the baked goat cheese and the braised oxtail crostini.

Modern Fried Egg

Libertine Social has a beautiful mesquite wood fired grill that is the focal point of the steak menu that features the wagyu skirt steak and the 20 ounce bone-in-ribeye. That is only the beginning when it comes to the wood grill experience, you can try a whole roasted fish based on what is in season and fresh, which means getting to experience such fish as a whole branzino. You are also going to find the tender Kurobuta pork chop, which is best described as the Kobe beef of pork chops. Libertine Social even brings that great charred flavor to broccoli.

Mixologist Tony Abou-Ganim put together a lineup of cocktails that make Libertine Social one of the most distinctive bars in all of Las Vegas. The list is long so you might want to make a few visits to Libertine Social, but the one to start with is a swizzle. Order a pitcher to share with friends and experience the flavor sensations of such drinks as the Queen’s Park Swizzle, which features El Dorado 15 year old rum along with the thick sweetness of demerara syrup. You can also try the bottled cocktails that are created daily in the restaurant and offer such refreshing drinks as the Zig Zag, which is created around Absolut Citron Vodka, Cointreau and Watermelon Juice, creating a drink that is almost too easy to drink. The cocktails continue with the fizzes that all contain seltzer water to give you that refreshing fizz to pair with flavors such as limoncello, orange juice, egg white and Tito’s Vodka that all comes together to create the namesake cocktail, the Libertine. Finally if you are tired of boring and tired shots, Libertine Social has put together a lineup of cocktails such as pineapple and vanilla bean infused rum, wild berry infused vodka and house-made limoncello.

Amazing Service

While the cocktail program is clearly impressive, Libertine Social has also created a beer program that is second to none. Not only does Libertine Social look for local beers to carry, but they also have a wide variety of beers from all over the country on tap. While the wine list is amazing as well at Libertine Social, if you are looking for something to pair with a steak, try the dark and rich Left Hand Co. Nitro Stout as you are going to enjoy how the hints of chocolate and coffee beans in this beer really compliment the woodiness of the steak.

Trying to choose a restaurant to dine at in Las Vegas has become a daunting task with so many wonderful choices. At the end of a trip to Las Vegas you always want memories and the one thing that you can guarantee after a visit to Libertine Social is that you will have memories. Whether it is the foie gras mousse or anything off of the wood fired grill or a cocktail you loved so much you try to recreate on your own, you will always remember the flavors of Libertine Social.
