Hash House A Go Go is an award-winning chain featuring farm-fresh and hearty fair with innovative twists and over-the-top presentations. Apart from its original San Diego establishment, Hash has footprints in 5 locations in Las Vegas, as well as Chicago, Connecticut and Orlando. It has been named “best” by some of the most reputable restaurant guides and garnered rave reviews from food critics. Its space is an upbeat mix of rustic comfort and art-studio chic.
Upon entering the restaurant, Lawrence and I had a hard time carrying on our conversations, for we were constantly distracted by the sights of eye-catching burgers in ample portions served around us.
We were eager to dive right into our meals, but the Manager said we shouldn’t miss out on their signature drinks.
Comes Hash House A Go GO’s Kiwi Watermelon Lemonade, the restaurant’s No.1 seller.
The 3-layered charmer has kiwi syrup in the base, house-made lemonade and fresh-squeezed watermelon juice on top, and a large watermelon wedge resting on the tall glass.
Hash House A Go Go is uniquely famous for its offering of non-alcohol drinks, which keeps its space filled even in slow hours. These mouthwatering creations have an interesting background story: Hash’s founder did not possess a liquor license when he opened its first restaurant in San Diego in 2000, and had to come up with none-alcohol beverages that could turn heads and provoke thirst.
We also ordered a Bloody Mary, which was delightfully zesty.
Our main courses were not just sights to behold, but trips to our palates.
Slow cooked BBQ Pork Ribs
The St Louis Ribs were braised with house soy BBQ sauce on top of griddled horseradish mashed potatoes and fresh veggies. Those juicy and tender meats melted in my mouth while still maintaining the signature bite that great ribs possess. The horseradish mashed potatoes enlivened my palates.
Chili Crusted Indiana Maple Leaf Farm Duck Breasts
The duck breasts with crispy skins were served with Prosciutto mashed yams, goat cheese, maple BBQ glaze and spicy cashews and veggies. Hash A Go Go’s dishes are never dull. There is always something in the mix that keeps them interesting.
KOKOMO Hash is famous for their griddled meatloaf made with their own blend of fresh ground beef, sausage and bacon. The giant meatloaf was served with roasted tomato and griddled smoked mozzarella cheese on milk bread. I have never felt so gravitated toward a piece of meatloaf as I did that night.
After a satisfying meal that showcased both homemade authenticity and culinary skillfulness, we were spoiled with another signature drink.
The S’more Mocha is another none-alcohol concoction that has become a staple of the restaurant.
This drink had me at hello. A large white coffee cup brimmed with overflowing caramelized marshmallows, garnished with graham crackers. It wasn’t just a looker, it tasted divine. Fine Mocha with creaminess of caramelized marshmallows kept me licking for more. It’s sweetness was refined, cozy, and not overpowering.
And our Strawberry cheesecake was just oh so dreamy!!!
I went home with a big smile on my face. Thanks to Hash House A Go Go!
