My husband and I celebrated National Hot Dog Day on July 23, 2014 in style with Jonathan Scott *, On-Air Personality and CEO of Vegas Non Stop, and musician Kenny Davidsen at Great Links Draft House & Grill. It was the perfect place for hot dogs.
As you might expect from the name, Great Links specializes in hot dogs and linked sausage sandwiches. But they also offer an extensive selection of hamburgers, conventional sandwiches, salads, classic sides and vegetarian options. Their face book page says “The best back-east style and American food available in Las Vegas”.
We started our meal off with two chili samplings and a selection of beer battered and fried sides. The fried pickle spears and zucchini styx as well as the Vegas or sage sausage white chili were unique. Vegas Chili contains chunks of sausage in a mild sauce. The conventional red chili is ideal for a chili dog.
We learned that Great Link’s hot dogs are custom made by Boar’s Head in New York City. They weigh a quarter pound and have a natural casing that has a distinctive snap when you bite into them. Their menu lists 18 hot dog combinations. The most interesting combination is the Mob Boss Dog. The hot dog sandwich contains grilled onions, peppers and mushrooms served with two cheese stix, marinara sauce and parmesan cheese.
I ordered the chili cheese dog with onions. It was just plain good. Great Links also offers turkey, vegetarian, and kosher skinless hot dogs upon request.
There are ten different sausage sandwiches on the menu including Polish, Italian, and Louisiana hot link sandwiches. Their classic is the Great Linski Kielbasa. We ordered one of these huge eight inch sandwiches for sharing at the table. It had kielbasa, sliced pickled beets, potato salad and secret seasonings.
My husband chowed down on their half pound pastrami cheeseburger. It had grilled onions, spicy mustard, a huge mound of pastrami and provolone cheese. He let me sample a little of this man-size combination.
There are nine different creations on the burger menu. Veggie and turkey burgers are also available. My spouse said that next time he's going for the Jalapeno Guacamole Cheeseburger.
Guy Shields, the owner of Great Links, sat down with us and told us about the grill. Guy is a lifelong resident of Las Vegas and has has been involved in restaurant design for over 30 years.
Guy opened Great Links in 2007. He told us that their breads are delivered fresh daily.
