Meatball Hero & Pasta Review - Perfect for National Meatball Day

Yes, it’s true that National Meatball Day is coming up on Wednesday, March 9th.

Hours

But before you hurry out to sample some meatballs that day, please note that there’s a restaurant in the Lakeview area of Chicago called Meatball Hero & Pasta where you can sample four different types of meatballs 365 days a year! And if it’s Leap Year, you have 366 days to savor the taste!

Approaching Meatball Hero

Owner and Chef Atif had worked in several restaurants and take-outs, but always wanted to have his own food emporium.  Meatball Hero & Pasta, a sparkling clean and inviting spot to dine in or take out, is your dining solution if you’re taste buds are ready for some made-from-scratch Italian food.

Checking the meatballs

Chef Atif’s kitchen is always humming as everything on the menu is created daily right there. We’re talking everything from the delicious bread my husband couldn’t stop eating (housemade wheat, white baguette, focaccia) to the four sauces (Marinara, Bolognese, Alfredo, Cheddar Sauce) to the pastas (spaghetti, cavatelli, fettuccini).

Then there are those wonderful meatballs – your choice of those mouth-watering traditional beef meatballs, plus chicken, vegan and fish balls (made from catfish) – which can be sampled as small or large heroes, or with your choice of pasta.  The menu at Meatball Hero & Pasta explains everything simply.  You just pick and choose whatever suits your palette that day, which may include salads, polenta fries, and mushroom risotto balls as added samplers.

Hard to choose

Chef Atif calls Meatball Hero & Pasta an Italian Scratch Kitchen. He explains the concept on his menu as “everything is prepared on premises.” He begins his culinary day early in the morning, and does not use any pre-packaged or processed foods on the menu. Diners can easily watch the cooks making each dish individually as the kitchen is set up to be part of the entire restaurant dining experience.

Pasta ready to be cut

My husband and I had the opportunity to chat with Chef Atif while the restaurant was quiet for a few moments. His method for making heroes is to cut off one end of the baguette and scoop out the middle. That creates a pocket where the Chef slides the meatballs into the heroes without making a mess.  Chef Atif even invented the special metal chute that does this.

Ready for patrons

As I mentioned earlier, on National Meatball Day on Wednesday, March 9th,  the Chef himself will be hosting a free meatball sampling from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm He also will be offering a BYGO special that day: buy any hero and get one FREE!

Yum

But diners, you don’t need a national holiday to love that scrumptious selection of meatballs Chef Atif Ali and staff create in his Meatball Hero and Pasta Kitchen in Lakeview, Chicago.
