It was one of those days where my distinctive cravings set in that forced my stomach to rumble, projecting a high frequency to my brain. The communication between the two was so clear. Nothing more would satisfy my hunger than a
burger. Not any old
burger would do me justice. It had to be a
burger so meaty and juicy that it was a threat to cows worldwide. This craving was out of control but has been a blessing ever since it has introduced me to one of the best
burger places in the south loop of Chicago; no other than
Epic Burger.
Epic Burger is a new restaurant on State Street between a dormitory known as the UC and Panera Bread.
As I walked through the glass doors of this craving kingdom, my ears tingled with excitement as they heard the sizzling of grease on the grills. I followed this desirable sound to the deep left corner of my new found glory. I became intrigued on what I had seen. The setup of this
burger palace was perfect. I honestly felt like I was at a barbecue, but inside! Behind the counter, where each hungry individual placed their orders, were grills and fryers. Two young chefs were draped in aprons that hand-packed the all natural ground beef, threw it on the grills and flipped them in order to get a perfectly cooked hamburger all the way through. Freshly cut fries were thrown into a wire basket that sizzled and bubbled in oil. All of this was prepared right in front of me. Not to mention, a bar type waiting area next to the cash register was another part of the kitchen where the blending of shakes, malts, and smoothies went down. The blissful sounds, the enticing smells, the tantalizing scene, my mouth began to water. I couldn’t take it anymore! My hunger pain grew stronger!
The thought of what to order struck my mind as the glowing menu above the register shot out delightful temptations. Although
Epic Burger has a couple of entrée options, I came to this place with the intentions of ordering an ordinary beef
burger. I decided to go with the all natural
epic burger but, like the name implies, there was nothing ordinary about this
burger. I was able to fancy it up with lettuce, tomato, pickles, grilled onions, and epic sauce that complimented my burger with delicacy. French fries and a peanut butter malt completed my order. I paid for my feast, grabbed my number, and took a spot by the bar.
While my
burger was grilling, my fries were frying, and my malt was blending, I took a look around this epic environment of random shapes painted with earth tones on the walls. It had a young, hip feeling towards it with the addition of retro lamp shades hanging from the ceiling. Some college students conversed at the square tables where they sat at while others enjoyed trivia on the plasma TVs that hung from the wall. Before I knew it, dinner was served.
With much curiosity, I tore my teeth into the big
burger and ripped the bite contents into my mouth. My taste buds freaked with every encounter of the toasted wheat bun, crispy, juicy, meat and its’ delicious condiment tag-alongs. This was just the beginning of this
epic meal. The fries were fried to golden crisps and sparkled salt crystals. Don’t worry about anyone snatching a couple of these potato strings either because the bag merely contains an everlasting supply. One sip of my peanut butter malt and I was in ecstasy. Bite after bite and sip after sip my stomach roared with happiness and I gleamed with joy knowing that I had precisely chosen a flawless pick for my hunger satisfaction. I think I almost spoiled myself.
Therefore, whenever you’re craving a
burger, I highly recommend
Epic Burger. You don’t even need to be hungry for a
burger. The scrumptious fries and sweet drinks qualify just as much for an empty stomach on an affordable budget too.
