There are many underlying philosophical questions asked in this art film – What is art? What is beauty? Should an artist distort beauty or capture the essence of it? How does nudity relate to life and death? How does nudity relate to sexuality? Why is a nude model in the art world important to draw centuries ago and even today? The answer to the latter is because classical drawing is the foundation for any artist to learn the basics of mastering painting and drawing. It is essential for an artist to be classically trained and to have at least a basic foundation of learning how to draw a life model.

This film is based on my experiences working as an art model in Vancouver. I worked for many colleges, high schools, community centers, art institutes, art studios, animation and video game companies, etc. Some of my art poses were long and others were short, 45 second dynamic gestures. Being an art model requires an understanding of your body and yourself, being able to move constantly, being very physical, being confident about yourself, having courage and owning the environment as soon as you walk in the door or on stage!

Many artists have told me that I appeared larger than life, taller and bigger on stage while modeling nude and that they were surprised that when I stepped down to speak to them that I was so petite.

“Portrait of a Nude Art Model” was shot at Marty Katon’s Art Studio in Venice Beach on March 16, 2014. To view Marty’s beautiful paintings go to katonart.com or contact Marty's e-mail

Janet Cho added her creativity as Art Director and First Assistant Director. Amazing actor, Richard Beatty assisted as an Acting Coach and Second Assistant Director. Armin Balg was the visually creative Cinematographer who made the lighting sensuous and lit up my nude body.

All post production was done by Eddie Hernandez who added magic and creativity to the editing, sound and music.

The music in the film is brilliant and is called “The Resistance” by 2 Cellos. It can be purchased on AmazonMP3, Google Play, Itunes, etc.

The equipment and sound mixer was provided by T.J. Yoshizaki’s Baseline Productions.
